‘Palash’ Day Celebrated at City Forest

Palash Day was celebrated at City forest Nagar Van behind Sukhna Lake which was organized by Department of Forests and Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Yuvsatta. Anurag Aggarwal, IAS, Home-cum- Secretary (Forests) was the chief guest on the occasion. Around 150 students from various city schools participated in the endeavour which includes Delhi Public School sector-40, Government Girls Model Seniro Secondary School sector 18 and Government Model Senior Secondary School sector-33, Chandigarh.

While welcoming the chief guest, Chief Conservator of Forests, UT shared that in the 100 acre area of city forest, a special ‘Palash Flower Zone’ is created with plantation of over 400 saplings by young students. More saplings will be planted soon by forest department in the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary and other forest area, he added.
To promote ‘Palash’ as state flower of Chandigarh, Anurag Aggarwal advocated that every year of this day will be celebrated as ‘Palash Day’. Further while appreciating the efforts of department of Forest and Wildlife and students to preserve green cover of city he expressed that these natural grooves are most important in cities like Chandigarh as if you spend time in nature. It is imperative that we all preserve and promote green forests around us.

The participating students get inspired by planted ‘Palash’ saplings and spent time in nature and learn about a beautiful ‘City Forest’ coming up so magnificently behind the Sukhna Lake area with not only green cover, but also a gymnasium and play equipment for young and old.
Prominent amongst present on the occasion included PJS Dadhwal, Deputy Conservator of Forests (HQ/WL)-cum-Member Secretary, Chandigarh State Pollution Control Board, Pramod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta, Manu Vohra of Chandigarh Tree Lovers and Kulbhushan Kanwar- Environmentalist.
