CGC Jhanjeri organised Fashion Show

Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri organized a fashion show in which about 50 boys and girls of all disciplines of the college took part. Honii Sandhu, Renowned Fashion Designer and Arun Grover, Managing Director of Innovative Knits, Mohali were the Chief Guests. The other dignitaries present during the show included Karan Chhabra MD Attire Art Fashion Boutique, Nishta Sagar Actress and Model in Pollywood, Harparvit Singh Winner Mr. Punjab 2017, Renowned Punjabi Singers Deep Pabla and Gurinder Chnoli. These personalities also acted as judges for the fashion show.




The whole show consisted of five stages. Each stage has five teams modeling on specific themes such as Disco, Rangraz, Glacier, Loofah, Royal Rajasthan, Sunset, Kingfisher, Cake and Infinity, long gown, sky, retro, vision, kathakali, tie and dye, embellishment, 1960's, western punjab and ecraser, Honeycom, Cocktail, Neon Colors, Punjabi Wedding and Devil. Prizes were given for different categories like Creative Design, Best Design, Color Combination, Best Theme and Upcoming Design. In model category Simran, Sher Singh, Vaani won first prize for most charming face, most walk (male), best walk (female) respectively.
Speaking on the occasion Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC said that the Fashion Technology students of this college are giving an excellent performance in academics as well as extra moral activities. Dr. G.D Bansal, Director General said that the dresses designed by the students and the fashion show put up by them gives a feeling that their work is in no more way less than the work of a professional. Dr. Bansal added that seeing the caliber of these students, each one of them will be placed before passing out.

‘Graduate’ kids steal hearts at The British School Chandigarh

The Tiny- tots of the foundation years got the taste of their first success in the field of academics as they graduated to grade I.  The British School, celebrated its Glittering ‘ Graduation Ceremony’, in the midst of distinguished guests, teachers and  parents. The momentous occasion  began with a special assembly followed by Gayatri Mantra and Welcome speech by Foundation Year III.
The charming elfins of FY I presented a foot tapping dance on "We are the world" emphasizing that "all people on Earth are connected and cannot ignore the needs of others". The academic activities enacted by the young students of Foundation Year II were the cynosure of all eyes. The young angels were all decked up as they graduated towards the new phase of their life. While addressing the gathering Principal congratulated the parents and little munchkins on achieving this milestone. Cultural programs were conducted by the students of FY III class themselves. At the end parents shared their views about their experience. Mrs Lata, the administrator extended vote of thanks and the programme was concluded with National Anthem.

Shemrock Senior Secondary School, Sector 69 conducted Graduation for class UKG to 5th with full zeal and zest .On the occasion several speeches  were delivered by young students on different interesting topics. Besides memories and experience at school was also shared by some students. Tiny tots also got chance to showcase their hidden talents as budding singers and dancers got an opportunity to present them on the stage. Later, Songs were also sung on this graduation ceremony to tribute the students by the teachers and memorable moments spent together were recalled which make the atmosphere a bit emotional.
While encouraging the students at the moment Chairman A S Bajwa told unique methods of parenting. According to him the importance of graduation is that it boosts the Children’s morale to the next grade, it also provides them with a sense of security and identification, especially for those planning to switch for admission to other schools and parents are also able to realize the worth of their money paid in school.
He further added that such ceremonies are important to nurture a feeling of  pride since childhood which will help them to become responsible and successful citizens of future. Students  as well as  their parents were witnessed in jubilant mood  after receiving the graduation certificates.

Road Safety Program held at Ambika College of Nursing

Ambika College of Nursing in association with Traffic Education Cell, Mohali organized a road Safety program in which around 150 students and 38 faculty members participated. Video on incidents that happened at Mohali and Delhi was projected. Problem solved decision making technique was followed during the interaction session.
Speaking on the ocassion, Vibha Pandey, MD Ambika College of Nursing said that it is imperative to  educate people on road safety does not happen accidently but regmine deliberate effort. Hence we conduct such awareness program on road safety.

Thousands participate in "Mirchi Neon Run" in Chandigarh

Huge number of city residents participate in "Mirchi Neon Run" which was organised by Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM at Circus Ground in Chandigarh. Residents of all age group participated with great enthusiasm. Students from various colleges also took part. Prior to Run, various activities were organised such as awareness program by Chandigarh Traffic Police to wear helmets, a special "No Honking Drive" which is being started by Chandigarh Traffic Police in City was also informed to the youth. Zumba Dance workout which was much enjoyed by all participants present was a warm-up activity. UT Mayor Davesh Moudgil with Punjabi Actor and Singer Ranjit Bawa.

Blood Donation Camp held at Punjab and Haryana High Court

A blood donation camp was organized by The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association in collaboration with Blood Contributors Club and the High Court Employees’ Union with the Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource Centre, sector -37, Chandigarh in the Bar Library of High Court, Chandigarh with an overwhelming response. What was ever more encouraging was the fact that litigants and other visitors to the High Court premises also participated actively in promoting the noble cause.

The Blood Donation Camp was inaugurated by Justice S.J. Vazifdar, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court along with his companion Judges Justice M.M. Dr. Anmol Rattan Sidhu, President, Puneeta Sethi, Vice President, Ravinder Singh Randhawa, Secretary and the entire Executive Committee of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association also participated actively in furthering such a noble cause by donating blood. The Members of Punjab and Haryana High Court Employees’ Union and the Clerks’ Association also came forward enthusiastically to make the Blood Donation Camp success.

World Forestry Day Celebrated at GGSCW-26

Students enthusiastically participated in various competitions like Paper Reading, Slogan Writing, Rangoli Making and Face Painting contests.

An Interactive Lecture on ‘Gender Based Violence’ was organised Post-Graduate department of Sociology at GGSCW-26, Chandigarh by Dr. Jyoti Seth, Professor, department of Sociology PGGCG-42, Chandigarh. Dr. Seth highlighted various forms of gender violence faced by young girls in our society. She informed and inspired the students to stand up against many incidents of violence and necessary complaints about it to the authorities. 

Mentioning about cyber crimes, she made students aware about cyber laws and how the constitution of our nation upholds equality and justice for all. Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, Head of Department of Sociolgy, offered the vote of thanks.

Dr. Surinder Singh, M.D Senior Medical officer and Dr. Tarsem Singh, M.D. Medical officer and Orthopedic Consultant, Govt. Civil Hospital, Kharar were the Chief Guest on the occasion. Vibha Pandey, Managing Director of Ambika College of Nursing flagged off the campaign. She addressed the gathering that Govt has formulated the scheme but is the responsibility of every citizen to carry out and motivate each other in implementation of the scheme.

The British School Panchkula celebrates Achievement Day

The British School, Panchkula pulsated and echoed with the sounds of music, laughter and applause as around 300 kindergartners participated in the Achievement Day Function held in the school premises. The little angels of the school had put up a splendid show of rhymes, songs, dances and plays. The program began with the offerings to the almighty by the tiny tots of UKG through their prayers. A lovely rendition of ‘I have a Dream” by the students of UKG left everyone speechless.

These were followed by showcase of the year- long achievements through rhyme recitation about alphabet, numbers and healthy habits by the little ones of Nursery class. The kids also spoke small lines about their readiness for the next class. The LKG class presented a musical enactment of ‘The Hare and the Tortoise” with the moral-slow and steady wins the race, thereby emphasizing on continuous academic efforts through the year. A wonderful collection of rhymes was sung on the stage by all the classes followed by a small story enactment based on the colours of the Rainbow by LKG students. The students of UKG described how the gardener plants a seed and nature nurtures it through the cycle of seasons till the sapling grows and flowers and bears fruit. The allegory to the teacher student relationship was poignantly evoked through a series of action rhymes.
Directors, Sanjay Sethi , Geetika Sethi and Principal Anita Mehra who wished, “Together, we can give our children the roots to grow and wings to fly.”

Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organizes awareness rally to use cycles

Creating awareness regarding use of cycles, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organized an awareness rally which was led by UT Mayor Davesh Moudgil, Jitender Yadav, IAS, Municipal Commissioner accompanied by Dr. Saurabh Mishra, IAS, Additional Commissioner, Tejdeep Singh Saini, Joint Commissioner, Manoj Bansal, Chief Engineer, Dr. P.S. Bhatti, Medical Officer of Health and other employees of MCC carried out demonstration through cricket stadium chowk, sector 16.
Carrying the placards of different slogans i.e. please give way first to the cyclist and ‘I am doing this for me’, you can not be Sad while riding a cycle’ and ‘I want you to join me to save fuel’ etc., the MCC team made a chain around the roundabout.
The Mayor and commissioner said that this type of awareness rallies will be conducted in different parts of city and in various institutions in near future.

Neeru Bajwa and Amrit Maan Launched First Look of Film ‘Aate Di Chidi’

To giggle the audience out by showcasing Punjab’s issues in a humorous way, 'Aate Di Chidi’ will star the Pollywood’s queen Neeru Bajwa, who will be playing female lead in the movie and ace singer Amrit Maan will be seen as male protagonist for the first time. The genre of ‘Aate Di Chidi’ is comedy.
The stellar star cast of the movie includes Gurpreet Ghuggi, BN Sharma, Anmol Verma, Karamjit Anmol, Harby Sangha and veteran actor Sardar Sohi.  The movie will be directed by Harry Bhatti under the banner of Teg Productions. The movie will be shot in Punjab and Canada.
“I have recently worked with Amrit Maan, which was a short but sweet experience. Now we are about to start Aate Di Chidi and are definitely excited. I had liked the idea right from the time the story was narrated to me. Working with Maan and the director, Harry Bhatti will for sure be an enriching experience.”, as told by Neeru Bajwa who was in Chandigarh to launch the first look of 'Aate Di Chidi'. The others present were Amrit Maan, Gurpreet Ghuggi, BN Sharma, Anmol Verma, Sardar Sohi, Karamjit Anmol, Harby Sangha.
Amrit Maan said, “I had started my acting journey with a grey shade character and then tried to entertain with a comic and carefree role. Aate Di Chidi is a new and fresh concept. Firstly, I am about to play the leading man and then, the story of the movie itself has got me hooked. I feel more responsible; in fact, I was star struck working with Neeru Bajwa in Laung Laachi. But now I am looking forward to the beginning of the shoot.”
“I have always been considered as a serious director, the one who focuses on important issues. This film also has similar backdrop but the treatment is funny and a bit different from my usual style. I am trying something out of my comfort zone and hope that people will accept it the same way as they have loved my works earlier.”, as said by director Harry Bhatti. The shooting of the film will soon begin in Punjab region.

80 Units donated during Blood Donation Camp held at GGSCW 26

A Blood Donation Camp was organized at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26 Chandigarh by 'Ehsaas' Red Ribbon Club and NSS wing of the College in collaboration with Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 Chandigarh.
S Gurdev Singh Brar, President Sikh Educational Society along with Er Kulbir Singh, Vice President and Col (Retd.) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary SES inaugurated the camp. Harpreet Kaur, officiating Principal appreciated the selfless service that volunteers and students rendered to humanity.
A team of doctors headed by Dr Ajay Singh from GMCH, Sector 32 conducted the camp. Students as well as staff members turned out in great numbers for this noble cause. Total blood units donated were 80. An employee of college Satish Kumar, donated blood for the 18th time whereas Sukhminder Kaur, from the non-teaching staff, donated for the 15th time.

Highest in the school category, Satluj Public group of schools, sector -2 Panchkula excelled in 32nd Spring fest 2018 which was organized by HSVP. 51 students and teachers won maximum prizes in various flower and cultural events. The garden nurtured by the Director, Pritam Singh Serai, won the First prize in Panchkula, Junior Category. The garden has been winning consecutively from the past 14 years. Principal Krit Serai of the Senior Wing and Principal Gur K. Serai of the Junior Wing applauded the contributions made by various staff and children and informed that overall trophy for winning maximum prizes is won by Satluj school. Besides this, as many as 19 merit positions are won by the students and teachers.

Women with Vision facilitated by NGO Vrinda

This felicitation is aimed at recognising and praising them for contributing in different walks of life for a stronger society and country”, as told by Dr. Preeti Jindal , a renowned Gynaecologist and President of NGO Vrinda during a felicitation program as part of ongoing International Women’s Day celebrations to honour women with vision from all walks of life.
Kalka MLA, Latika Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion while former Chandigarh Mayor, Asha Jaiswal and Sr. Deputy Mayor Gurpreet Singh graced the event with their presence as special guests.
Among those who were honoured were Dr Amrinder Kaur, a 1983 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer who is the first woman in the country to head a state's forest department; Dr. Kala Vashisht, former HOD, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, PGI Chandigarh; Dr. Madhu Chitkara, Vice-Chancellor, Chitkara University, Punjab; Asha Kumari Jaswal, ex-Mayor, Chandigarh;  Aruna Chattopadhyaya, owner of a famous boutique LOKHI MAE in Chandigarh; Dr Sonica Krishan, author and speaker in the areas of healthy and joyous living through Ayurveda, meditation, yoga and other contemplative practices; RJ Meenakshi, renowned RJ; Preeti Mehta, business women into designer glasses; Raman Ghai, make-up artist and ex-model; Renu Jindal, promoter, Homeland Heights; Ramandeep Kaur Buttar, Joint Director, Rural and Pancahyat Development; and, Taruni, a former Journalist.

The felicitation ceremony was followed by a unique ramp walk wherein women from all ages - mothers-to-be, mothers and Grandmoms walked down the ramp in a bid to promote a healthy lifestyle among women. While Neha Juneja was chosen as the Healthiest and Smartest Mom-to-be, Amrinder Kaur was declared Healthiest and Smartest Grand Mom, and Deepti Singh was chosen Young and Sassy mom.

Indian Wedding Theme highlighted during 'Mosaic-2018', Annual day of Indo Global Colleges

Budding Engineering,  Architecture, Management and B.Ed students getting all together to celebrate the 15th Annual day of Indo Global Colleges in Abhipur near Chandigarh. The title was ‘Mosaic 2018’ under the theme 'Indian Wedding'.
After the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by the welcome address by CEO Manav Singla the students took over the stage to conduct the program. Anchoring was done by a team of bright young boys and girls coming in couplets and adding lot of fun and merriment to each item that was presented. There were many skits, group dance, songs, boliyan, drama and musical programs followed by dance from various parts of the country as Indo Global C Iolleges has students from many parts of India. Many students participated in wedding Fashion show and they showcased their traditional bride and bridegroom dresses.
The celebrations were a vibrant and colourful exposition exhibiting the diverse cultures of our country. It was a treat to watch the young budding youth of Sikkim performed the famous Lepcha Folk dance which is also known as the Dance of the Swans. The highlight of the dance program however was Bhangra, the vibrant traditional folk dance of Punjab by the Punjabi students dancing to the pulsating bhangra music. Shreya Rawat, Vth Semester from Architecture won first prize in Best Bride whereas best  Bridegroom title was won by  Varun Guleriya, IInd semester from Architecture.
Chairman of Indo Global Colleges Sukhdev Kumar Singla awarded prizes to the students who  won various competitions as well as for overall academic excellence. The function ended with the singing of national anthem.

Mayor inaugurates two Open Air Gyms in Chandigarh

To facilitate the local residents and keeping in view the health of general public, UT Mayor Davesh Moudgil inaugurated open air gyms in two green parks at Sector 40 A and B and second gym at Sector 39 C and D in presence Area councillor Gurbax Rawat, officers of MCC and other prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that the Municipal Corporation is providing open air gyms in each and every park as MCC is committed to provide best possible facilities and infrastructure in each locality. Gurbax Rawat said that she has committed to provide these kind of open air gyms in each park in her ward so that the local area residents can maintain their health. She said that with the provision of these gyms general public can do exercise as and when they get time and are very useful for those, who generally avoid to go to the gym centres because of heavy charges.

In order to celebrate International Women’s day, a motivational seminar on self realization for the students and staff of various departments was organised in which female students and staff of Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, near Chandigarh participated.  The theme of the seminar was “Time is Now: Rural and Urban Activists Transforming Women’s Lives”. Students from various departments including Aryans College of Engineering (ACE), Aryans Business School (ABS), Aryans Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT), Aryans Institute of Nursing (AIN), Aryans College of Law (ACL), Aryans College of Education (ACE), Aryans Degree College etc were present on the occasion.

Women’s Mela organised by SACS and Yuvsatta at village Daria

To change peoples' perception about HIV/AIDS, Women’s Mela was organized to celebrate International Women’s Day by UT SACS and Yuvsatta in association with Panchayat of village Daria at its Dispensary campus in Chandigarh. Over 300 ladies of the village participated in an event of fun, fervor and information on Women Rights. Prominent people who participated included  Teenu Chopra, DD-IEC and Sandeep Mittal. DD-TI at Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, Gurpeet Singh, village Sarpanch and Pramod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta.

Young women and girls of the village and volunteers of Yuvsatta organized a Fashion Show on the occasion. In which Neeta, Minakshi and Kusum of Daria were adjudged best overall winners. Students of KIHMS College of NursingPanchkula staged a play ‘Stop HIV’ on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Sandeep Mittal shared that women account for more than half the number of people living with HIV worldwide. And young women (10-24 years old) are twice as likely to acquire HIV as young men the same age as HIV disproportionately affects women and adolescent girls because of vulnerabilities created by unequal cultural, social and economic status.
Tinnu Chopra added that unaccommodating attitudes towards sex outside of marriage and the restricted social autonomy of women and young girls can reduce their ability to access sexual health and HIV services. As much has been done to reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV, but much more needs to be done to reduce the gender inequality and violence that women and young girls at risk of HIV often face.  
In the end Gurpeet Singh, village Sarpanch and Pramod Sharma honoured all prominent participants.

Celebrating International Women’s Day, UT Mayor Davesh Moudgil and Jitender Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh honoured Veer Naaris at Mayor’s office, in sector 17 Chandigarh. The Veer Naaris, honoured were Harshada, w/o Shaurya Chakra Shahid Sergeant Milind Kishore, martyred on 11th October, 2017, Minasha, w/o Shaurya Chakra Shahid Cpl. Nilesh Kumar Nayan, martyred on 17th October, 2017 and Sushma, w/o Ashok Chakra Shahid Cpl. Jyoti Parkash Nirala, martyred on 18th November, 2017.

Addressing the occasion, Mayor said that by honouring these Veer Naaris, the MC Chandigarh honoured their husbands and salutes them for their bravery and sacrifice for the security and safety of the Nation. He further said that empowering women is very necessary to bring gender equality.
He further said that women should also identify their strengths and abilities, and move towards world of empowerment.
