Carmel Convent Teachers distributed Gifts to Support Marginalized Girls

Chandigarh, July 19

'Youth for Peace' club of Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh along with Yuvsatta-an NGO organised a month long ‘Red Bapudham’ Campaign which targets marginalized children especially adolescent girls at “KitabGhar”-Children’s centre of Yuvsatta in Bapudham colony in sector 26 of Chandigarh. This campaign was an attempt to popularize the love for reading and interest in creative learning and thinking. During the prize distribution function, ten teachers of Carmel Convent School led by Sister Rehana A.C give away prizes to 11 girls who during their summer holidays task, distinguished themselves by reading maximum number of books, prepared excellent power-point presentations on current social issues. A 12 year old girl Archana won a new bicycle on the occasion and other girls received various gifts of stationary packs.

During the function a special birthday celebration was also organized for the girls of Kitabghar whose birthdays falls under the month of July. Addressing the function, Sister Mary Supreeta, Principal of the School shared that as part of ‘Power of 1 ruppee Campaign’ in their school, all students are contributing one rupee each daily so as to support education and empowerment of girls in have-not segment of city.
Yuvsatta volunteers as being part of active campaign organizes programmes like book talks and storytelling sessions. Teachers of the school presented on the occasion were Preeti Swami, Neeta Chawla, Harbhag, Reena Mahajan, Sehaj, Seema, Archana Mathur, Divleen and Isha.
