Eco-Friendly Diwali celebrated at Smiling Kiddies Playway School

The festival of lights was celebrated at Smiling Kiddies Playway School celebrated the with great pleasure. The school wore a festive look with candles, diyas, lanterns and lights adorning the reception and corridors of the school. Kiddies dressed in colourful attires and were very excited. They gave the message of eco-friendly Diwali through their banners. Kiddies of playgroup class decorated candles beautifully. Nursery class kiddies decorated diyas in a different manner. KG class kiddies made colourful rangolis. They enjoyed sweets also. The celebration brought joy to every heart.

Devotees light candles to celebrate festival of Diwali at Illuminated Gurdwara Bouli Sahib in Dhakauli area of Zirakpur on Sunday. School News photos by Sumit Malhotra
The festival of lights was celebrated everywhere in Tri-city region. At some place people celebrated the festival with crackers whereas some light candles at Gurdwara Bouli Sahib to offer prayers. Traditionally, residents decorated homes with lights which removed the dark into colourful features. Children, as usual were seen enjoying bursting crackers. Eco Friendly Diwali celebrated at St. Teresa Convent School Panchkula

St. Teresa Convent School celebrated clean and green Diwali with festive gusto. Diwali was celebrated at the school with devotion and religious zeal. The day started with a special morning assembly wherein students delivered speeches on the significance of the festival and the relevance of eco-friendly celebrations. Various other activities such as ‘inter-house Rangoli-making’, candle and ‘diya’ decoration, paper decoration, paper lanterns, flower arrangement, and card-making contests were organised in all the classes. Students were briefed on ill-effects of burning crackers and were urged to celebrate the festival with candles, sweets and non-polluting green crackers.




Diwali celebrated at Saupin's 32 Chandigarh

A special assembly on the occasion of Diwali at Saupin's 32. The motive was to drive home the message of celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali. Children raised the slogan “Say no to crackers” and spoke on the hazards of pollution caused by crackers. A Rangoli completion and a Soft Board competition were also organised to usher in the spirit of Diwali.

The British School Panchkula : Blood Donation Camp and Annual painting competition held

The British School, Panchkula, in association with the District Red Cross Society, Panchkula organized a blood donation camp in memory of Late Shri T.R.Sethi, Founder Chairperson of The British Schools, Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali  in the school premises at Sector-8, Panchkula. The School Chairperson Urmila Sethi inaugurated the camp and handed over refreshments to the donors. She interacted with the students and congratulated them on their zeal in organizing the camp.

Previously, the Director- Principal, Geetika Sethi addressed the students and educators encouraging them to inspire their friends and relatives to join the drive. The parents and all the staff members displayed true humanitarian spirit, a hallmark of every TBS parent, by participating in the camp enthusiastically. Even the residents of the vicinity joined the camp. Director Sanjay Sethi gave away the certificates of appreciation to donors, saluting their spirit and for being exemplary figures for their children. Ms Shilpika , Ms Rashmi Chugh , Mr. Vikrant Chugh, Mr. Gaurav Bishnoi  were felicitated as outstanding donors in different categories.

The secretary of District Red Cross Society, Panchkula, Savita Aggarwal appreciated the efforts of the school, congratulating them for successfully motivating people and creating awareness about the benefits of donating blood.



Saupin's 32 Chandigarh : Students dedicated morning assembly to Swacch Bharat Mission

Saupin’s 32 dedicated the morning assembly to the Swacch Bharat Mission. The children took a pledge to maintain cleanliness around them. Segregation of dry and wet waste which has been undertaken in school was explained to them. 
Separate dustbins for the same have been installed. The school has also been declared as a Plastic Free Zone.

The 14th Dalai Lama awarded Honorary Doctorate by Chitkara University

Amidst enthusiasm being welcomed by sea of students and staff waving, The 14th Dalai Lama arrived at Chitkara University Punjab Campus. He was was received by Chitkara University Chancellor Dr. Ashok K Chitkara and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Madhu Chitkara, and offered a traditional welcomed by Tibetan students studying at Chitkara University.


Chitkara University presented His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama with an Honorary Doctorate, Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.) Honoris Causa, in honour of his unparalleled and invaluable contribution to Humanity, World Peace and Education, and in recognition of his outstanding achievements in promoting peace globally and for inspirational spiritual guidance and leadership. His Holiness also opened Chitkara University’s Global Week 2019, and inaugurated the “Centre for Student Happiness” which will work towards increasing the quality of the students’ experience at Chitkara University.


Dignitaries & senior officials present at the occasion included, Ms. Mia Yen, Canada's Consul General in Chandigarh; Dr. Niyati Chitkara, Principal, Chitkara International School; Mr. Kumar Anil, IAS, DC-Patiala; Ms. Nazuk Kumar, SDM (Central) Chandigarh Administration; International Delegates; and Senior Government Officials from UT & Punjab.
Following a traditional lamp lighting ceremony to open the Global Week 2019, He addressed the gathering on “The Need for Universal Ethics in Education”. He stated that “Modern education is oriented towards material goals with little scope for inner values. When modern education began to emerge about 200 years ago religious institutions ensured a sense of inner values, but as the influence of those institutions has declined. We need our education establishments to take responsibility for fostering values like compassion, kindness and concern for others.” His Holiness believes that the shape of the future is in our hands – the 21st century teachers & learners. “You, who belong to the present century, can create a world that will be happier and more peaceful.”


After the insightful talk, His Holiness left the floor open for students & delegates to interact with him, ask questions, and even welcomed suggestions. Answering students’ questions on how he deals with challenges, His Holiness told them his mantra. “When faced with a challenge or problem, I try to look at them from a wider perspective.” He recommended that young people pay more attention to inner values and the means to achieve peace of mind.
Describing the visit an absolute privilege and a deeply humbling experience, Hon’ble Dr. Madhu Chitkara said, “We are honoured to have His Holiness The Dalai Lama amidst us today - one of the world's most revered teacher, thinker and peace messenger. We believe that the values of His Holiness are the same as ours, and we aspire to inculcate and deeply imbibe his teachings not only with our students, but also with our International partners in 34 countries, across 6 continents.” Many in the audience returned his wave as His Holiness left the stage. On his way to take a tour of the University, he stopped to plant a sapling at the campus to commemorate his visit.


Also present at the occasion were 55 International Delegates from 39 Universities in 22 Countries across 6 Continents, who were deeply moved by His Holiness’s words.

International Day of Girl Child Celebrated with PINK TURBAN CAMPAIGN

Yuvsatta-NGO and Peace Club of Govt. Girls Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 18C, Chandigarh organized a ‘PINK TURBAN CAMPAIGN’, at School campus with participation of over 2000 students and teachers of the School. They all came in morning assembly donning pink turbans as symbol of empowered girls and women. Prominent amongst those who were present on the occasion included Dr. Abdul Qayum, Dy. Conservator of Forests, Chandigarh Administration and Ms. Reeta Kohli, Sr. Advocate, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh.

Explaining the initiative and welcoming the dignitaries Mrs. Raj Bala, Principal of the School said that now from last four years Yuvsatta-NGO is running this campaign through Peace Clubs in local Schools and Colleges motivating young people to be bold take a stand and stand for their rights. As until they feel themselves as weaker sex, look for support of others, nothing is going to change for women rights. ‘BE THE CHANGE’.
Reeta Kohli another senior associate of Yuvsatta-NGO shared that Turban- Pagri is a symbol of honour and respect in all the regions where it is a practice to wear one, especially in north India with worst kind of sex ratio and cases of female foeticide. And PINK colour represents compassion, nurturing and love. It relates to unconditional love and understanding, and the giving and receiving of nurturing. In color psychology, pink is a sign of hope. It is a positive color inspiring warm and comforting feelings, a sense that everything will be okay. So the idea is to use Turban and Pink Colour to give a clear and strong message of ‘RISING GIRLS & EMPOWERED WOMEN’.

The Chief Guest Dr. Abdul Qayum in his addressed said that since 2012, 11th October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girl’s face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. And 2019 Theme is — Girl Force: Unscripted and Unstoppable. He also added that International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity.
On the occasion school students also presented a cultural programme promoting rights and dignity of girls and women. The programme ended with National Anthem in the end.


St. Teresa Convent School Panchkula : National Girl Child Day celebrated

To raise awareness and consciousness among the school community towards the girl child, ’National Day of Girl Child, celebrated at St. Teresa Convent School, Sec-25(Pkl). School turned pink as part of the National Day for the girl child celebrations. The girl students came wearing pink turbans during morning assembly where they were inspired and motivated to feel empowered in order to ensure rights; dignity of girls. To convey the message of “Rising girls & empowered women” many other activities were organized like poem recitation, slogan writing, delivered speeches, expressing their views regarding the inequalities faced by the girl’s child in the society & emphasized the importance of girl’s right to equal education & fundamental freedom.

The school took this social responsibility to provide a platform for the young minds to protect the
“Girl Child” so that the “Rising Girls bloom into the Empowered Women”. The whole idea was to spread the message of ‘Empowered girls for a stronger India’ around the world.

Saupin's 32 School : Students excel in InterSchool Taekwondo competition

Saupin’32 Lipakshi of Class X clinched the first position in the Inter School Taekwondo competition (U-17 girls) organised by the UT Education department, Chandigarh. Meanwhile Anupam Singh of Class X secured 2nd position in the competition (U-17 boys). 20 schools from Chandigarh participated in the event.

Students learned the importance of wildlife

Students of Maharishi Dayanand Public School, Daria, Chandigarh visited the Nepali Forest in collaboration with the Environment Department, Chandigarh Administration. The children went there and got detailed information about forests and wildlife from the teachers in the forest. They observed that the forest is a place of shelter and food for wildlife. Animals here can live a better life. Trees make the environment clean. Fresh and pollution-free air is essential to stay healthy. Hence planting of trees is necessary. Due to urbanization the area of forests is becoming narrow. Wild animals come into the homes of due to cutting of trees. 


This affects the lives of humans and animals. Students said that forest and wildlife in reality is our wealth. Its protection and enrichment are essential. The children told that they had studied about forests in books, but seeing them experimentally, the feeling of attachment towards forests and wildlife has increased. Animals and birds are our friends. It is all about taking care of them. 


Teachers on this occasion gave their full guidance. Principal Dr. Vinod Kumar said that the main purpose of this visit was to make the students aware of the importance of wild animals and forests.

Bhavans Vidayala Chandigarh Team bags award in National Level Competition

PRODIGY 13, a national level competition was held at Sukhdev College of Business Studies, New Delhi on the 3rd and 4th of October. The event dealt with simulations of real estate, investment and finance and quizzes on a host of topics. 


 
The students team from Bhavan Chandigarh, comprising 4 students – Vardaan Aggarwal, Abhiuday Sood, Rohit Goyal and Aditya Sharma, won the second runners up position in the on-campus round amongst 84 teams that participated from across the country. The team had earlier won the first position in the ‘Preliminary Case Study Round’ out of 400 teams.

Smiling Kiddies Playway School celebrated Dussehra with lots of fervour and ardour. Kiddies were attired in the costumes of  Ramayana characters. They were amused when they saw huge effigies of Ravana, kumbhkaran & Meghnath. The effigies were burnt & everyone around enjoyed the serene atmosphere. Teachers explained the story of Ramayana & gave the message of victory of good over the evil to all the kids.

'The Colour Parade' staged at The British School Panchkula

Around 200 Kindergarteners of The British School staged a show ‘The Colour Parade’ at The British School, Sec-12, Panchkula on Saturday. The function was presided over by Honourable Chairperson Urmila Sethi.
The function began by seeking the blessings of God. The prayer was performed by the junior most group, ‘Nursery’. 




The tiny tots performed action songs and recited rhymes with great enthusiasm and perfection.
The students of LKG made a Colour Stew by performing the mystical magic ‘Bippity Boppity Boo ...’ The students left the audience awestruck by sharing their knowledge on the significance of the seven colours of the rainbow. The tiny tots displayed the magic of number Seven in ‘Charm of Seven’.
The UKG students shared beautiful idioms on colours and brightened the show with rainbow songs and rhymes. Through the action song ‘Hokey Pokey Fruit Song’ the children displayed the importance of eating fruits and veggies.
The programme came to an end with a message on doing away with plastic as the nature is giving warning signs which was highly appreciated by the Director, Geetika Sethi. The Principal of the school, Anita Mehra said, “Such platforms help students not only showcase their talent but also develop stage confidence.

Dussehra celebrated at St. Xavier's Senior Secondary School Chandigarh

A message was sent effectively to the audience that to be a good human being they need to burn the evils in them by controlling KAAM , KRODH, LOBH, MOH AND AHANKAAR  through clips from "RAMAYANA". Whole ground was filled with joy and fun when Ravna came on his motor-bike and gave sweets to tiny-tots.

Celebrations of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi concluded at Bhavan Vidyalaya Chandigarh

The best tribute that the younger generation today can pay to Mahatma Gandhi is to emulate atleast one of his numerous qualifies, said Manoj Parida, Advisor to the Administrator of UT, Chandigarh, addressing the students and teachers of the Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh, here today. He was speaking on the concluding function of the celebrations of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Bhavan Vidyalaya sector 27 Chandigarh.
Inspiring the young boys and girls and invited audience, Manoj Parida recalled some of the life-changing moments of Mahatma Gandhi’s life and said that Gandhiji stood out and the entire country followed him only because of his unwaving and unsurpassed commitment to truth, his steadfastness to righteousness, and his original visionary ideas that brought freedom to the country. 
He earlier recognized 27 children and four teachers of Bhavan who went to Gujarat recently and did 110km stretch on cycle from Surat to Dandi and back, to learn and discuss the values of truth, nonviolence and cleanliness that Gandhi ji stood for. Complimenting the school, Manoj Parida said that this event would certainly remain memorable in the hearts and minds of the children who participated in this trip to Dandi.  
Earlier, Dr B.N. Goswami, renowned Indian art critic, historian and former Vice Chairman of the Sarabhai Foundation of Ahmedabad and author of over 20 well acclaimed books on art and culture, delivered the key note address. He shared moving anecdotes of the Mahatma’s life and spoke of how Gandhiji influenced the life of our nation through his two potent weapons, truth and non-violence that made the Britishers to free India.

The greatest responsibility on the younger generation, he said, was to follow his teachings ardently to create a better future for this country, and the world. Chairman of the Chandigarh Kendra of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Shri Rajendra K Saboo, recounted his four encounters with Mahatma Gandhi during his childhood that left an indelible mark on his life. The programme began on a tranquil note with students rendering soulful bhajans reminiscing the man and his mission. As the audience swung to the notes of ‘Vaishnava Janto’ and ‘Sabarmati ke Sant’, the students also enacted the Dandi March episode of Mahatma’s life.
Senior Principal of the school Vineeta Arora outlined various activities that the school undertook during the year to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi right from the design of a diary by students to various other competitions, Model United Nations, to trip to Dandi.
