National Mathematics Day Celebrated by Dev Samaj College of Education

Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36-B, Chandigarh organised an online inter-college competition “Maths Mania 2020” to celebrate the birth anniversary of great Indian Mathematician, Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan. The college thus, invited e-entries from participants for Poster-making, Slogan-writing and Essay writing competitions in English, Hindi and Punjabi medium. Teams from 16 colleges from different states and UTs like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Chandigarh registered their participation.
The motive of the competition was to acquaint young artists and creative writers with the outstanding contributions of Srinivas Ramanujan in the field of mathematics. The results of Math Mania 2020 competitions were declared on 22nd December, 2020 by the judges. The participants were given E-certificates while the winners received position E-certificates. The Principal , Dr. Agnese Dhillon lauded the efforts of all the participants as well as the joint efforts of Dr. Kiranjit Kaur, Associate Professor, Mathematics and NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. Charanjit Kaur and Dr. Harpreet Kaur in bringing the event to fruition.

The speaker invited was Dr. Lata Suresh, who is currently Head, Knowledge Resource Centre, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, Gurugram. Large number of participants connected in this webinar from far and wide. The resource person whose multifaceted persona is an inspiration to womenhood, covered all the aspects from role of women in the family, society and in the nation building. Quoting examples of the great women from history and the current times, she beautifully expressed the plight of women from 'parda' system to the current days in a very poetic way. Many questions were posed at the extremely well informed speaker. College Principal, Dr. Pawan Sharma shared his enlightening words and encouraged the young girls to become the committed women leaders of tomorrow.

2nd phase of Captain Smart Connect launched by CM Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh

To facilitate seamless e-learning in government schools amid Covid-19 pandemic, Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh launched 2nd phase of Captain Smart Connect virtually and distributed another 80,000 mobile phones to the students of class 12 of Government Schools. The event held at Government High School, Behlolpur, SAS Nagar.
The event witnessed simultaneous distribution of phones at 845 schools today by various Ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries across the state.
Kick-starting the second phase at the Government Senior Secondary School here, the Chief Minister announced that the remaining 45443 smart phones of the targeted 1,75,443 would be provided to students by the end of this month, to fulfill his government’s commitment to further strengthen digital infrastructure in schools. While his government had tried to distribute these phones urgently to meet the online education challenges amid Covid, closure of the industry had somewhat delayed the process, he added.
In the 1st phase, 50000 students had received smart phones. Under the scheme, the state government is spending Rs 87.84 crore for the digital empowerment of 88059 boys and 87284 girls. The Chief Minister said that 877 tablets were also being provided today in 22 senior secondary schools at the cost of Rs. one crore. Earlier, 2625 tablets were provided to 372 primary schools at the cost of Rs. 2.99 crore.
Addressing the students, Capt. Amarinder said when the Punjab Congress promised smart phones in its manifesto, nobody knew these phones would become so vital for students due to the Covid pandemic. He said he wanted Punjab’s youngsters to be abreast with the latest technological advancements for effective promotion of digital education, which leverages technology in a big way in the present scenario. The Chief Minister said that smart phones and tablets would equip the students to meet the challenges of education during the trying times of pandemic.
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s firm commitment to provide the best infrastructure in schools to enable students to compete with their peers in private and convent schools. In this context, he said 7842 schools and had been converted into smart schools with the latest infrastructure, coupled with computers, tablets etc, and 1400 more government schools would also be converted into smart schools by the end of the next year. Further, he said the School Education Department had converted 16589 classrooms as smart classrooms across the state, and the remaining would also be covered under this scheme in the next six months.
Even as he congratulated the teachers for preparing the e-content, which is now used while teaching the students online, the Chief Minister stressed the need for keeping pace with the fast-paced changes in education globally. With Punjabis settled around the world, it was important for students also to learn English and other languages to enable them to be job-ready across the globe, he added.
His government, said the Chief Minister, had ensured that every student studying in Govt. Schools gets the best education with the help of the latest gadgets. Punjab is the first state in the country to universalize Pre-Primary School Education in the year 2017 itself, and the same is now fully operational in all the primary schools. As many as 8393 posts of the pre-primary school teachers have been created and the same would be filled shortly, he said, adding that the introduction of the online transfer policy for teachers, based on merit and performance, was another major step by his government to raise the bar in education by bringing transparency into the system.
Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, who is also MLA from Mohali, the Chief Minister announced that the school would be upgraded to senior secondary level and named after 1971 war martyr Captain Ami Singh, Vir Chakra. Furthermore, Rs. 25 lakh would be given to the Government senior secondary School for Girls Sohana, he said.
Earlier Chief Minister also interacted with the tiny tots of the Pre Primary wing of the school.
Prominent among others who were present at the occasion included MLA Navtej Singh Cheema, Principal Secretary to CM Tejvir Singh, Director General School Education Mohd Tayyab, DC Mohali Girish Dayalan, SSP Mohali Satinder Singh DPI (SE) Sukhjit Pal Singh and DPI (EE) Lalit Kishore Ghai.

The United Kingdom and INDIA to Accelerate Collaboration on Vaccines to Prevent Future Pandemics

Experts from India and the UK will join forces through a new virtual hub to deliver vaccines for coronavirus and other deadly viruses, the UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab announced in India on Wednesday. The Foreign Secretary met Prime Minister Modi to discuss the UK and India working together as a force for good and launching the pioneering new vaccines hub, which will share best practice for regulation and clinical trials, and foster innovation. He also visited a Delhi health clinic where Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines will be administered.
India’s Serum Institute is poised to make over a billion doses of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca. Unlike other vaccines, it can be stored at normal fridge temperatures, making it easier and cheaper to produce and keep – and distribute around the world.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said: “This Serum Institute and Oxford University partnership demonstrates the UK-India relationship at its best: a vaccine developed in the UK and made in India; drawing our brightest minds together to save lives as a global force for good. “A global pandemic requires a global solution. Scientific cooperation has made breakthroughs on coronavirus vaccines at record-breaking pace and the UK-India Vaccine Hub will now build on these innovations, to bring this crisis to an end and protect us all against future pandemics.”
Millions of the doses made by the Serum Institute will be distributed to the world’s poorest people via the global COVAX initiative, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Gavi, the vaccine alliance.
The UK has championed equitable access to any coronavirus vaccine for those who need it and has committed up to £619 million to COVAX to secure both the UK’s access to coronavirus vaccines and distribute Covid-19 vaccines across the world.
India supplies more than 50% of the world’s vaccines and 25% of the NHS’s generic drugs. Closer UK-India cooperation on medicines and vaccines approvals will ensure speedy access for the UK to Indian-produced pharmaceuticals and help safeguard future supplies to the NHS. The new hub will enable British and Indian experts to share knowledge on clinical trials and regulatory approvals and get vaccines to people who need them most in a safe, secure and energy-efficient way.
It will protect the UK and India by enhancing cooperation on the development and distribution of coronavirus vaccines, better aligning the international regulation of vaccines, and fostering partnerships to develop innovation ‘moonshots’ that can define vaccine delivery over the next decade and beyond.
During his meeting with Prime Minister Modi today, the Foreign Secretary signalled his ambition for a closer UK-India relationship as part of a wider UK focus on our partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. They also spoke about the 10-year roadmap which heralds a new era for the UK and India with an ambitious plan for an Enhanced Trade Partnership.
The Foreign Secretary also met Minister for Education Ramesh Pokhriyal and agreed to work together on mutual recognition of academic qualifications, starting with master’s degrees, over the next year. The Foreign Secretary welcomed the signing of a new agreement between the University of Edinburgh and the Indian State of Gujarat to open a new biotechnology university in Gujarat in July 2021. This will be the first foreign university collaboration of its kind in India.
· The UK is one of the biggest global funders of the World Health Organization and the single biggest donor to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness (CEPI) and to Gavi.
· Of the £619 million the UK has committed to COVAX, a global initiative designed to provide countries equitable access to safe and effective vaccines, up to £548 million will go towards helping developing countries get coronavirus vaccines to those who need them. COVAX is co-led by Gavi, CEPI and WHO.
· The UK and India also announced today a new memorandum of understanding between India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and the United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (UK MHRA) agreeing to more frequent discussions on UK-India vaccine and pharmaceutical regulations, improving standards and sharing information to control against the trade of unlicensed products.
· In addition, the UK and India announced a new partnership to help UK and Indian scientists unlock the power of data, including the data within our genes, to deliver better diagnostics and enhanced life-saving treatments for cancer, diabetes, maternal health challenges and rare diseases.

UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab met Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi (Tuesday, 15 December), to set out the UK’s ambition for a strengthened UK-India relationship over the next 10 years.
His visit marked the latest step by the UK to build closer relationships with like-minded countries in the Indo-Pacific region, with India a key strategic partner for the UK. This comes ahead of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s visit in January and the UK’s invitation to India to be a guest country at our G7 Summit next year.
The Foreign Secretary is due to meet Prime Minister Modi today (Wednesday, 16 December) to discuss a ‘10-year roadmap’ for a new era in the UK-India relationship, closer collaboration on an Enhanced Trade Partnership, and working together to end the coronavirus crisis and tackle climate change.
The Enhanced Trade Partnership will unlock economic benefit for the UK and India. Ahead of a future Free Trade Agreement, it will boost bilateral trade and investment, which already stands at almost £24 billion and grew by 11% in the last financial year. UK-India investment supports over half a million jobs in each other’s economies.
The Foreign Secretary also reaffirmed the HMS Queen Elizabeth Carrier Strike Group will visit the Indo-Pacific region next year.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said:
“The UK and India have an invaluable and indispensable partnership, and we look forward to strengthening it in the years ahead. Together we can deliver an Enhanced Trade Partnership next year, combine our cyber security expertise to protect our citizens and join forces to protect global health and promote things like vaccine production.
“As COP26 President and G7 President next year we will work closely with our Indian friends, as they return to the UN Security Council, to boost trade, promote peace and work together as a force for good throughout the Indo-Pacific.”
As a major economic and diplomatic power in the Indo-Pacific, closer UK-India economic, security and scientific ties will boost growth and create jobs for Britons and Indians and bring together both countries’ expertise as science superpowers to advance the frontiers of medicine and research.
An immediate win has been the UK Global Tariff schedule, which could reduce tariffs on Indian exports by up to £40 million per year from 1 January 2021.
Next year’s COP26 summit in Glasgow is a crucial moment for the world to unite to limit global warming to below 1.5 degrees. The Foreign Secretary will use his meeting with Prime Minister Modi to thank him for his personal leadership on the issue, with India having quadrupled its wind and solar capacity in the last decade. Today, he also met Minister of Environment Prakash Javadekar to discuss further UK-India collaboration on climate change.

Professor Tirthankar Bhattacharya unveiled the *Catalogue of Major Art Objects*

The Department of art History and Visual Arts PU Chandigarh unveiled the *Catalogue of Major Art Objects* in the Museum of Fine Arts on Monday, the 14th of December 2020 . The event was coordinated by Professor Rajeev Patnaik the convener of the Panjab University Museum Aggredation Committee and chairperson Geology department. The Catalogue was unveiled by Professor Tirthankar Bhattacharya Chairperson of Art History and Visual Arts department and Director Museum of Fine Arts . Professor Tirthankar Bhattacharya has compiled and edited the catalogue of the major art objects. The publication would be of immense help to the researchers . The catalogue would be available online and also at the departmental library archives and the Museum of Fine Arts .
Professor Tirthankar stressed the need to publish such catalogues as a part of the outreach program for the visibility of the University. He urged the other chairpersons to take up the challenge and also publish such catalogues of the museums of the University.
He thanked the Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Raj Kumar for his motivation and support.
The event was well received by the faculty and staff of the university.

With the start of winter season, a variety of winged visitors starts arriving in Chandigarh. These can be spotted at water bodies in and surrounding areas of city in the month of mid November and they stay till March every year.
Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh becomes home for a variety of Migratory Birds. These Birds usually comes from Europe, Japan, China and Asia.
Although there is a decline in the number of migratory birds every year, However these become center of attraction for number of visitors and bird watchers. Besides that, various bird watching campaigns are also organized for visitors and students.

20 smartphones distributed to underprivileged children under 'Donate a Phone' Campaign

Under the ‘Donate a Phone’ campaign started by Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS), Chandigarh Chapter, 20 new smartphones were distributed to under privileged children at Government Model High School, Sector 19, Chandigarh.
In the event organized by Forum for Awareness of National Security, Chandigarh Chapter, DSP Ram Gopal distributed smartphones to the students in presence of Raj Kishor, General Sectetary FANS, Chandigarh Chapter and Principal of Sector 19 School Sanjay Walia.
Due to measures undertaken to stop the spread of COVID-19 schools and colleges have been closed and classes have been moved online. However, there are a large number of students who do not have the means to participate in the online classes. ‘Donate a Phone’ campaign has been started by Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS), Chandigarh Chapter to provide phone and tabs to under privileged children to help them continue their education through online classes. Anyone can donate a phone/tab under the program. Visit https://donateaphone.in to donate new/used phones for this noble cause.
This is the second such program. Earlier, 12 new Tabs were given to the under privileged students of class 9 and 10 of Govt. Model High School, Sector 11, Chandigarh.

1100 visitors turn up on First Day of Re-opening of CHHATBIR Zoo

Punjab Government re-opened Chhatbir Zoo with strict COVID-19 Protocol for the safety of Zoo Visitors, Employees and Animals. Staggered entry was ensured by the Zoo Administration in the entry plaza of Zoo. In the first slot around 100 visitors entered and the total tally rises to 1100 by end of day. The online booking facility, Wifi Hotspot and Battery Operated Carts were effectively utilized by the visitors. Even though some visitors faced difficulties in using online booking, QR code and other cashless transaction methods, the overall response of the visitors were very positive. Visitors enjoyed the clean and pollution free environment of Zoo. The visitors showed Apart from this, visitors enjoyed the new facilities and amenities such as Mom & Baby care room, Coffee booth, Control room, Selfie points, Touch free Hand wash and Sanitizer dispensers etc.

The Bank of Baroda Team were present in the Zoo to formally launch the online booking and QR code facilities for the visitors. Mr. Kanwardeep Singh, Senior Manager thanked the Department of Forest & Wildlife Preservation for getting the opportunity to serve in Zoo with the collaboration of Zoo administration. The MyInternet Team also were present in the Zoo to formally launch the Internet and Wifi Hotspot facilities for the visitors. Mr. Navjot Singh thanked the Department for providing them opportunity to get associated with Zoo administration.
Dr. M. Sudhagar, IFS, Field Director, Chhatbir Zoo said that the response of visitors were positive and the visitors were hesitant to move from the Tiger Enclosure after seeing the Amar, Arjun and Dilnoor. He also said that the visitors felt safe in the Zoo and were properly informed and guided.
Mr. R.K. Mishra, IFS, Chief Wildlife Warden, Punjab shared that the response of visitors for the reopening of Chhatbir Zoo were more than expected. All the safety precautions were taken as per the COVID-19 norms keeping in view of safety of visitors, Zoo employees, workers and animals. Accordingly, the other Zoos of Punjab viz Mini Zoo-Patiala, Mini Zoo Bir Talab-Bathinda, Mini Zoo-Ludhiana and Deer Park-Neelon will also be reopened next week for visitors.

UT Adviser visited Pre-fab shelters in Sector- 52 & 56 Chandigarh ; Interacted with Occupants

Manoj Parida, IAS, Adviser to Administrator-cum-Chairman Chandigarh Housing Board visited the Pre-fab shelters in Sector- 52 & 56 from where the occupants are being re-located to Maloya under the Affordable Rental Housing Scheme. He interacted with the occupants and listened their grievances. Chandrawati Shukla, Municipal Councilor was also present at Pre-Fab Shelters site in Sector-52. It was decided that after completing the relocation as per the Survey List that was finalized after considering claim & objections, the other requests may be considered by the Committee of already constituted. If some of them found to be eligible, as per the norms, they may be considered under the Affordable Rental Housing Scheme.
The shifting of occupants from Pre-Fab Shelters to Maloya to be completed within December itself. Though the process of shifting is going on smoothly yet it must be ensured that there is minimum inconvenience to the residents during the shifting process.
The land vacated at the site of Pre-Fab Shelters to be immediately protected with barbed wire fencing and the Administration to decide about its future use.
Thereafter the Adviser visited the Maloya Complex and interacted with the residents who have shifted there in last 15 days. The residents expressed their gratitude to the Administration for providing them Flats for dignified living. Shri Parida asked the residents to maintain hygiene & sanitation and to concentrate on the education of their children in the good atmosphere. Rajesh Kalia, Municipal Councilor was also present in Maloya Housing Complex. After interaction with the residents, the Adviser instructed that the initial teething problems in some of the flats to be attended by the CHB on priority and the Complaint Office should be pro-active to resolve these issues.
The vending platforms and commercial booths to be allotted on priority by the Municipal Corporation/CHB.
The Adviser also inspected the ongoing physical possession process and release of Electricity & water connections at Malaya. The occupants came for taking over physical possession of new flats expressed their eagerness to shift there immediately after getting the possession.

Walk the Red and Talk the Red mark World AIDS Day

Each year, on 1st December, the world commemorates World AIDS Day. To mark this day, Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society conducted various awareness programmes in the city.
A State level programme was conducted in collaboration with Haryana SACS in accordance with the Global Theme of “Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility, wherein a Virtual Fashion Walk was conducted “Walk the RED and talk the RED”. The Bollywood celebrity Sargun Mehta was the show stopper. Everyone was dressed up in Red spreading awareness and prevention messages by holding placards. The members of Transgender Community joined in the virtual fashion walk.
An another programme was conducted in collaboration with Chandigarh Network for Positive People (CNP+) where cake cutting ceremony was done involving small children giving a message “Children are a future and let’s keep them safe by getting every pregnant woman tested for HIV so that the mother to child transmission could be stopped.” 
Partner NGOs conducted health camps, awareness talks, distribution of masks, medicines, nutrition to the needy to observe this day.
Dr. Vanita Gupta informed that all precautionary measures were taken while conducting awareness programmes to mark World AIDS Day. State Programme was conducted physically as well as virtually to avoid crowd gathering.

Chandigarh Network of Positive People (CNP+) and Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society joined hands to distribute ration, blankets, fruit, masks and soap to the People living with HIV, as a way of observing World AIDS Day 2020. The theme for this day, this year is “Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility” and this is the way of showing solidarity to the Cause and sharing responsibility both by health providers and the affected Community.
About 150 community members were felicitated in batches. Dr. Vanita Gupta, Project Director Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society informed that to avoid rush these community members were called in small groups and packets distributed. She informed that timely diagnosis and proper regular treatment with anti retroviral therapy are necessary to stop the spread of HIV. It is very important to raise awareness about this and to sensitize the community members to adhere to the HIV treatment alongwith healthy lifestyles, regular exercise and nutrition.
This kind of programme is always beneficial for the Community members as it helps in elimination of stigma and discrimination and gives them a platform to share their views and experiences.
Pooja Thakur, President CNP+ informed that in Chandigarh, people are conscious and almost 100% adherence to HIV treatment is there. The staff working under the AIDS Control Programme is doing a commendable job.

Amid the grim Covid situation in Delhi-NCR and apprehensions of a second wave in Punjab, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday ordered a series of fresh restrictions in the state, including re-imposition of night curfew in all towns and cities as well as doubling of fine for not wearing masks or following social distancing norms, with effect from December 1.
The curbs, which will shall be reviewed on December 15, also restrict opening timings of all hotels, restaurants and marriage palaces till 9.30 p.m. Night curfew will remain in force from 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., announced the Chief Minister, warning people against letting their guard down under any circumstances.
Giving details of the new restrictions after a high-level state Covid review meeting, an official spokesperson said fine for now following Covid appropriate behaviour shall be hiked from the present Rs 500 to Rs 1000.
Given the in-flow of patients from Delhi for treatment in Punjab, it has also been decided to review and optimise the beds availability in the state’s private hospitals. The Chief Minister has asked Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan to work with the concerned departments to encourage more private hospitals to come on board and earmark beds for Covid care.
To further strengthen the availability of oxygen and ICU beds, Captain Amarinder has ordered strengthening of the L II and L III, with constant monitoring of districts that are not equipped with L III facilities. The management practices in GMCHs and Civil Hospitals should also be examined in light of the recommendations of the report received from the Expert Group, he said.
The Chief Minister has also directed the Health and Medical Education departments to make emergency appointments of specialists, super-specialists, nurses and paramedics, to further augment the manpower which was recently strengthened with
the recruitment of 249 specialist doctors and 407 medical officers. The departments have also been asked to consider preparing 4th and 5th year MBBS students as reserve and back-up, in case needed in the future.
On the testing front, the Chief Minister stressed the need to fully utilise the 25,500 daily RT-PCR testing capacity, and directed targeted and regular testing of potential super spreaders, including Government officials. The District Hospitals must have 24 x 7 testing available, and the same must also be made available at other convenient locations where people can easily access the same, he said.
While the increase in contract tracing was a positive sign, steps must be taken to ensure that all these contacts are also tested, said the Chief Minister, adding that the Patient Tracking Officers must also be assigned this task.
To ensure that no deaths take place in home isolation, Captain Amarinder said the agency hired to look into these cases should keep close tabs on such patients. While mortality audit was ongoing, it was a matter of satisfaction that the Department was now collecting reasons for placing patients on ventilator by private hospitals, and there was a referral group available to monitor these patients, he added.
Referring to the reports of early vaccine coming in, the Chief Minister said while he was happy to note that the data base for healthcare workers was ready, the departments should also look at the other categories of frontline workers who could be prioritised for the vaccine.

Department of Environment honoured Green Diwali Campaign Winners

To promote cracker free, pollution free and safe festival of Deepawali, this year the Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration along with Yuvsatta-NGO organized an Inter-School Short Mobile Video Contest on theme of ‘My Green Diwali-My Green Pledge’, in which over 225 students and teachers from twenty prominent Schools of the city participated.
In a formal function with all COVID protocols at Paryavaran Bhawan, Sector 19, Sh. Debendra Dalai, CCF & Director, Department of Environment honoured the prize winning students and teachers.
Appreciating the whole-hearted participation of all the city residents in ‘Green Diwali Celebrations’, Sh. Debendra Dalai said that this year at PGI, just one burn case was reported in Chandigarh on Diwali night against 60 in the festival the previous year. And all the injuries were minor in nature and the victims were sent home after necessary treatment. Moreover, with Chandigarh saying no to crackers, the city saw its AQI at 140 on the day after the festival against 341 post last Diwali.
Mr. Dalai added that a day after the Diwali festival we used to see our area littered with trash of cracker boxes and empty bottles, but this year it was different and clean. Now, we all have to keep this momentum of maintaining a clean and green city alive.

दर्शन, दर्द, गर्व और इतिहास पर होगी लिटराटी-2020 के पहले दिन चर्चा
चंडीगढ़ लिटरेरी सोसाइटी द्वारा शुक्रवार से लिटराटी 2020 का आयोजन होगा।
चंडीगढ़ लिटरेरी सोसाइटी के वार्षिक लिटरेचर फेस्टिवल लिटराटी के आठवें एडिशन का आयोजन ऑनलाइन शुक्रवार से होगा। इसका प्रसारण सोसाइटी के फेसबुक पेज और यूट्यूब चैनल पर लाइव होगा। पिछले प्रत्येक वर्ष ये फेस्टिवल शिवालिक की पहाड़ियों तले सुखना लेक क्लब में आयोजित होता था। मगर इसका आयोजन इस बार लाइव होगा।
फेस्टिवल का स्वागती भाषण सीएलएस की चेयरपर्सन, कवयित्री और लेखिका डॉ सुमिता मिश्रा देंगी, जिसके बाद फेस्टिवल के पहले सेशन में ‘मोक्ष- ए सेक्यूलर आइडिया ऑफ लिब्रेशन’ विषय पर प्रसिद्ध लेखक और फिलॉस्फर गुरचरण दास के साथ इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की स्थानीय संपादक मनराज ग्रेवाल चर्चा करेंगी। हावर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी से शिक्षा प्राप्त कर चुके गुरचरण दास प्रख्यात वक्ता हैं। इनकी किताबें भारतीय परिवेश और पारंपरिक भारतीय जीवन पर आधारित हैं। जिसमें ‘इंडिया अनबाउंड’ किताब अर्थ विषय पर, ‘द डिफिक्लिटी ऑफ बींग गुड’ किताब धर्म विषय पर और ‘काम- द रीडल ऑफ डिजायर’ किताब काम विषय पर आधारित रही। फेस्टिवल में गुरचरण अपनी हालिया किताब ‘मोक्ष’ पर चर्चा करेंगे, जो जीवन में अव्यवस्था के बीच मुक्ति के रास्ते की तलाश करती है।
फेस्टिवल में अगला सेशन युवा पीढ़ी पर आधारित रहेगा, जिसका विषय होगा ‘टू बी लाइकेबल एंड टू बी हैप्पी’। इस सेशन में मोडरेटर के रूप में मोटीवेशनल स्पीकर विवेक अत्रे लेखक ज्योत्सना मोहन भार्गव और क्रिएटिव डायरेक्टर नाओमी दत्ता से चर्चा करेंगे। ज्योत्सना की किताब ‘स्टोन्ड, शेम्ड, डिप्रेस्ड –एन एक्सप्लोसिव अकाउंट ऑफ द सिक्रेट लाइव्स ऑफ इंडियन अर्बन टीन्स’ बेस्ट सेलिंग किताबों में शामिल है और नाओमी प्रख्यात टेलीवीजन प्रोड्यसर हैं, जिन्होंने एमटीवी, स्टार वर्ल्ड और नेटफ्लिक्स के शो के लिए कार्य किया। सेशन में वर्तमान में अर्बन शहरों में स्कूली बच्चों के जीवन में आए परिवर्तन पर बात की जाएगी।
अगले सेशन में लेखक और कूटनीतिज्ञ नवतेज शर्मा और भारतीय मूल के आयरिश लेखक कैनवेरी माधवन के साथ मोडरेटर के रूप में कर्नल अवनीश शर्मा चर्चा करेंगे। इसका विषय ‘ट्रेसिंग फुटस्टेप्स’ रहेगा।
इसके बाद ‘पेन एंड प्राइड –पंजाब जर्नी थ्रू द ईयर्स’ विषय पर पंजाब की धरती के इतिहास और वक्त के साथ इसके सफर पर बंगलुरू के लेखक अमनदीप सिंह, लेखक सरबप्रीत सिंह और मोडरेटर के रूप में डॉ रसीकप्रिया संधू चर्चा करेंगे।
दिन का आखिरी सेशन ‘इंक्रेडिबल इंडीया- सेक्रेड टेल्स ऑफ इंडियन टेंपल्स’ विषय पर रहेगा। जिसमें निहारिका भुवानिया के साथ 700 किताबों की समिक्षा करवाकर लिम्का बुक ऑफ वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड में नाम दर्ज करवा चुकी समिक्षक अनुराधा गोयल चर्चा करेंगी।

Lightenen Earthern Lamps to celebrate Diwali

Celebrating "Mission; The Awakening" by lighting thousands of earthen lamps on the eve of Diwali at sector 17 Plaza Chandigarh on Friday (13-11-2020).
This is the 19th consecutive year that this event is being organised with the aim to propagate the message of peace, brotherhood and tolerance while inviting the people from different walks of life and celebrating the occasion together.
