3 Days Photography Exhibition on World Photography Day Inaugurated at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Chandigarh

A total of 127 frames of 66 Photo-Journalists not only from Tricity, but from all over India as well as from International locations participated in the Photo Exhibition organised by “The Photo Journalist Welfare Association” to celebrate World Photography Day at Sobha Singh Art Gallery inside Punjab Kala Bhawan in sector 16 of Chandigarh on Friday. The Exhibition was inaugurated by Captain Abhimanyu, Finance Minister of Haryana and Cabinet Minister OP Dhankar, Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister, Government of Haryana. While looking at the displayed work both the ministers praised the work of participants. Not only the Photojournalists, but 26 frames of Veteran Photojournalists, Senior Reporters and Editors are also displayed.

As a picture itself speaks 1000 words, the huge participation by Photo Journalists highlighted various issues concerning daily life, awareness, celebrations, life cycle, scenic beauties through their photography art. Photos which shows the struggle with police during protests was highlighted by Ajay Verma and Bala Dutt Pujari. A message of brotherhood was given by Anil Parcha in his work. A photograph which attracts many eyes was a physically challenged man serving people during ‘Chabeel’ which was clicked by Deepak Arora.

Where Wildlife was captured by Geetansh Gautam which shows the mood of tiger, on the other hand photos which speaks about how people brave heavy rainfall and stormy weather was captured by Himanshu Mahajan. Apart from this Sandeep Sahdev shared his work on beauty and heritage. Daily Life pictures such as beauty of Chandigarh city was captured by Keshav Singh, Gatka performance during Nagar Kirtan by Jaipal Singh. Various Scenic beauties of parts of North India were captured by Ashwani Rana and Kulbhushan Kanwar.

The International work by various Photojournalists from Canada, US, Dubai added more flavour into the exhibition work. A concept of lane driving in Canada and beauty of Niagra Falls was shared by TS Bedi, whereas Glittering tunnel and Nightscape was captured by Pawan Singh from Dubai. The photography work of Veteran Photojournalists Anil Puri, Karam Singh, RP Sharma, Swadesh Talwar, Parvesh Chauhan and Geetanjali Gayatri are displayed with titles such as Begining, Grooming, Midway Nap, Sharing and Chit Chat. Photographs with titles Green Pastures, Picture perfect, Beyond Fifa of Senior reporters Archana Sethi, Deepankar Sharda are also displayed. Interestingly the photographs of Editors of Newspapers are also given space wherein Deepak Dhiman, Kunal Verma and Prabhat Singh’s photographs titled Fairies landed, Monsoon Mosaic, Lunch time and Experience are displayed.
The 3 days Exhibition is Open from 31st August to 2nd September, 10.30AM to 7PM

Parth Mohan and Hardik Gupta of Baba Lalwani Public School, Kapurthala and Harshdeep Singh, Panika Jain of New Model School, Roop Nagar were shortlisted for next level during Edition 2 of Connect Net Champs - a program that addresses Internet Security among school students. The program kicked off the session on Cyber Security at Baba Lalwani Public School, Kapurthala and New Model school, Roop Nagar. The session included a thrilling Quiz contest for students. Four students were shortlisted for the next round from the two schools.
In an interactive session with the expert, children at the school learnt various nuances of the internet world. Topics of discussion included the potential risks related to internet and how to avoid these, exposure to inappropriate material, harassment and bullying, physical molestation, legal and financial, viruses and hackers. Additionally, important guidelines were imparted on how children can avoid online risks, rules for online safety, and how to be a smart internet user.

Saupin's shines in UT Inter School Taekwondo Championship


Saupin’s 32 Manit Kapil of Class 6 took part in the UT Inter School Taekwondo Championship (U-14 and below 27 kg category) organised by the UT Education Department. 19 schools participated in the tournament.
Manit proved his skills by defeating opponents from SD 32, Moti Ram Arya School, GMS 50, RC 2 Dhanas in four successive rounds. He won the Silver medal and has qualified for the School National Camp and trials to be conducted by the UT Education Department.
Meanwhile Aarush Grover of Class 8 also took part in the UT Inter School Taekwondo Championship (U-14 and below 32 kg category) and won the bronze medal.

Smiling kiddies playway School, Zirakpur  celebrated ' Rakshabandhan' with fervour and gaiety. Kiddies were present in colourful dresses & were excited. All kiddies made different kind of rakhis and pasted them in their files.
 They enjoyed ' kheer' which they brought as a friday special. The whole environment was filled with joy and love.

Rakhshabandhan Celebrations at TBS Panchkula

Around two hundred students of The British School, Panchkula celebrated Rakshabandhan in school today marked by fervour and gaiety that one associates with this auspicious occasion. Week long celebrations took place. Circle time, Rakhi special rhymes and songs, craft activities and sharing of traditional Rakshabandhan stories took place. Little ones made Rakhi cards and tied beautiful handmade Rakhis to show their love for each other.
School Principal, Anita Mehra said, “Combined effort by teachers, parents, students and the school succeeded in catalysing the feelings of care and affection between siblings while celebrating a traditional festival with a modern twist. Such events help the children know about Indian culture and festivals.”

 “Vriksha Bandhan” celebrated by Aryans Group

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan students of Aryans College of Engineering (ACE), Aryans Business School (ABS), Aryans Institute of Management & Technology (AIMT), Aryans Institute of Nursing (AIN), Aryans College of Law (ACL), Aryans College of Education (ACE), Aryans Degree College (ADC), Aryans College of Pharmacy (ACP) organized a Tree Plantation activity at it's Campus and appealed people to take a pledge to protect them and celebrate a Green Rakhi. A total of 250 saplings were planted in and around the Campus by the students including Bottle Brush, Neem, Bael, Nermi, Mango, Guava etc.
Prof B.S Sidhu, Director, Aryans Group encouraged students to plant more trees and take care of their plantations thereafter. He said that students have celebrated “Vriksha Bandhan” with great zeal showing their love towards the Nature.
Sidhu stressed that college students must be connected with sapling plantation and awareness programmes which are key factors to encourage citizens to protect environment by planting trees. Plants should be grown to keep the environment green, clean, safe and healthy Sidhu added. Students showed great enthusiasm in planting them on the day of Raksha Bandhan and they knew their hard work would recharge ground water, prevent soil erosion, forest will become dense and yield more benefits.

The Holy Wonder Smart School celebrated Raksha Bandhan

 The Holy Wonder Smart School celebrated  festival of promise with great pomp and show .Children exhibited their talent by participating in various  competitions .Children of classes I and II  performed outstanding in rakhi making competition. Whereas children of class 3rd to 5th per formed well in Healthy Sandwich Making Competition which was judged on presentation, taste and ingredients used. Students of class 6th to 8th participated in Salad Making Competition where they were encouraged to show their talent in overall presentation and taste.
Students also represented various regions and communities of India adorning traditional costumes .Teachers shared mythological stories of festival rakhi and spoke on its significance .
Principal Premjeet Grover congratulated the students for their efforts and encouraged them to keep participating in such competitions so to learn more in a better way.Director of the School Ashween Arora  informed that the basic theme behind organizing this event was to increase creativity of students. Children were familiarized with the customs and rituals followed on Raksha Bandhan. According to her this is a sacred bond between a brother and sister and as to how rakhi symbolizes the sister’s love and prayers for the brother’s well-being and his life long vow to protect her.

Rakhi Celebrations at Ashmah International School Mohali

Ashmah International School Sector 70 Mohali celebrated Rakshah Bandhan festival with great fervour and joy. Students celebrated green Rakhi at campus to motivate others to take care of nature as its siblings. Green rakhi is an act of tying Rakhi  to trees to shield them from saws and axes. Rakhi making activity was also organized for junior wing. Kindergarten students came in colourful dresses. They put tilak and tied Rakhis to each other.
While motivating students Principal Shuchi Grover also guided the students about the value and vital importance of trees. She further added human life is only possible if we care about tree as they are the centre of human creation.She urged them to protect the trees that offer us shade, sustenance and so much else, and stop indiscriminate felling of trees.
Director J.S.Kesar informed at the moment that school believes that celebration of festivals in schools is necessary. Due to nuclear families, children today are deprived of true spirit of such festivals. Such celebrations in schools teach students about our tradition.

Saupin's Inter-School Poetry Recitation Competition : Bhavan Vidhyalay bagged Running Trophy

Saupin's 32 English Literary Club hosted their Annual Interschool Poetry Recitation Competition, celebrating the works of the poet John Donne. As many as 28 schools from the tricity participated.
Children impressed all present with their oratory skills. After a keen competition the 1st prize in the Junior category (6th to 8th) was bagged by Keshav Bindal of Bhavan Vidhyala, sector 27, the 2nd prize went to Gurbani Mann of St Kabir’s, sector 26and the 3rd prize was taken by Vedaa Anand of Strawberry Fields, sector 26.
In the Senior category the 1st prize was clinched by Akshara Bhalla of Saupin’s 32 while the 2nd and 3rd prizes went to Nandita Gupta of Carmel Convent and Vivikta of Chitkara School respectively. 
The Running trophy was awarded to Bhavan Vidhyalaya, sector 27 for overall best performance in the competition.

Clean India Campaign organized by Ambala College of Nursing

Swach Bharat Campaign (Clean India Campaign) has been organized at
Ambika College of Nursing, Badala Road Kharar, Mohali. The campaign started from hospital road in the evening. Vibha Pandey, Managing Director, Ambika Group of Colleges flagged off and inaugurated the campaign. Around 100 students participated. They picked garbage plastic and pledged for a plastic free environment. They guided venders and inmates of living a hygiene and plastic free environment
Vibha Pandey conveyed message to the Public that cleanliness is next to
Godliness. It should be followed by all walks of people in effective manner.
A healthy country and healthy society need its citizen to be healthy and clean
in every walk of life. 

Independence Day celebrated at The Knowledge Bus Global School

Dressed up as freedom fighters during fancy dress competition as part of Independence Day celebrations held at The Knowledge Bus Global School in Mohali.Various cultural activities were organized at the moment. The main attraction at the moment was skit on specially abled students which highlighted their rights to study in any school with other students. Dance and song performances were eye catching.
Principal of the School G S Bhardwaj informed that we never differentiate between normal and specially abled students. The celebration came to an end with National Anthem.

Patriotism marked celebrations of Independence Day at Aryans Public School

Mount Carmel School celebrated Independence Day

Independence Day was celebrated at Mount Carmel School, sector 47-B, Chandigarh. The day started with a welcome speech by Jinsa Elizabeth George, the Head Girl of the School. The Directors of the School then hoisted the National Flag. Moved further the school choir led the students, teachers and other staff members of the School present on this occasion, in singing the National Anthem. The Directors and the Principal then took salute of an impressive March Past by the contingents of the four Houses and Scouts and Guides of the School led by the School Cabinet members. This was followed by speeches on Independence Day by students, in which the freedom fighters of our country were remembered and Poems on Freedom were also recited. The School Hindi Choir presented a patriotic song ‘ Hum Sabh Bhartiya Hain…..’. This was followed by dance performances on  patriotic songs by the Indian Dance Club of the School. The students of the Integrity Club also presented a flash back on India’s struggle for Independence. They highlighted the landmark events that culminated in the call for freedom viz. Jallianwalla Bagh Massacre, Civil Disobedience Movement, Dhandi March etc., which finally led to Independence.
Dr. Earnest Charles J. Samuel, Director of the School spoke on this occasion on the importance of being people of integrity and how everyone needs to be free from the clutches of evil with which we have bound ourselves and be careful not to misuse the freedom that we have been given. Dr. Parveena John Singh, Principal of the School stated, “We should take the oath today of being highly responsible citizens of India to lead and safeguard this democratic and secular nation. This freedom is priceless and we should never fail to value it and preserve it whole heartedly.
The programme closed the National Anthem.

Colours of Patriotism marked 72nd Independence Day at GJIMT

72th Independence day was celebrated  with great enthusiasm and fervor at Gian Jyoti group of Intuitions Mohali. Chairman, J S Bedi unfurled the National Flag and took the salute. Members of management and faculty sang patriotic songs at this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Bedi said that Let us remember the sacrifices made by our forefathers for getting freedom of our country. The real freedom can be achieved if poverty is removed and youth are given employment. The upcoming generation should imbibe the qualities of nationalism, discipline, punctuality, dedication and positive thinking. We should celebrate our Independence Day with zeal and gusto”. He further emphasized that all the teachers should motivate the students to attain higher goals of their lives.
GJIMT Director  Dr. Aneet Bedi said that Let us on this occasion remember with gratitude, great souls who pioneered the Independence Movement and the selfless services now being rendered by the personnel of the three wings of the Armed forces and also those of the paramilitary forces, who guard our frontiers on the land, at sea and in the air.He appreciated the efforts of the staff and students. Later on sweets were distributed.

The 72th Independence Day was celebrated with great gusto, patriotic
fervor and profound devotion by the students of St. Teresa Convent

National Flag and was followed by a powerful rendering of the National
Anthem. A special assembly was conducted by the ‘Aura House’ students. School presented mélange of patriotic activities which created an atmosphere of National pride. Children were dressed up in costumes portraying personalities like Mahatama Gandhi, Bhagat Singh & Subash Chandra Bose.
The school students sang various patriotic and National songs such as ‘Vande Mataram’,’Vijay Vishwa Tiranga Pyara’, ‘Pyraa Pyara mera Desh.’ The hall resounded to the mesmerizing tunes of ‘Ae Watan…Mere Watan… aabaad rahe tu….,’. The highlight of the programme was the Play enacted by the class IX- X students on ‘What does Independence Day mean to young people now? The school was decorated with tricolor ribbons, balloons & flags. The song & dance in praise of our country by the senior students instilled a sense of pride & patriotism in every ‘Teresian’. 
The ceremony concluded with speeches by the school Administrator and Principal. They addressed the school on matter of importance for students. As the principal Shelley Chugh took to the stage the echo of her slogan ‘Jai Hind’ filled everyone’s heart with patriotism.

The staff and students of The British School, Panchkula came together to celebrate India’s 72nd Independence Day with gaiety, pride and fervor. The week long celebrations were inaugrated by Mukul Kumar, Deputy Commissioner,
Panchkula by planting a sapling in the school yard and an exhibition was also held in the name of ‘Indian Trail Blazers’ which show cased beautiful projects, models, charts, drawings pertaining to various subjects like: Number System, Planetary Science, Climate Science and Atmospheric Administration, Earth Science, Medicine, Nuclear Research
and Missile Development. Speaking on this occasion, School Principal, Anita Mehra said, “Independence Day is
indeed a day of joy, pride and respect for our country and we must make India a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity.”
A special assembly was organized by the students on this day in which they took pride in being a true Indian global citizen. The students and the teachers of all the classes gathered on the school ground. The school was decorated on the theme of peace and prosperity with tri colour ribbons, flowers and festoons.
A friendly match of basketball was held between teachers and students of Class 6 to 9 in which they actively Participated. Students of Class 1 to 5 were busy with fun games which were being planned for them by their teachers. The flag hoisting ceremony was done in the assembly. Adanne, Amodini and Hridyansh gave
a speech on Independence Day emphasizing the sacrifices made by our great leaders. The students sang the National Anthem and paid their respect to the National Flag with a salute.
The school campus reverberated with patriotic songs. Students paid homage to our martyrs and a tribute to our freedom fighters as their voices soared high while singing Sare Jahan se

Smiling Kiddies celebrate Teej in Zirakpur

Teej was celebrated in Smiling kiddies playway school with glee and euphoria. School was decorated in a traditional way. 

 This festival marks the beginning of the festive season with social activities, ritual and customs. 
Kiddies were attired colourful traditional dress and had fun on swing and enjoyed  traditional sweet 'Ghevar'. They danced to the tunes of punjabi songs. Playgroup kiddies sprinkled the sparkle dust and decorated the picture of Ghevar. Nursery kiddies decorated teej scene with colours and other materials.
K.G kiddies made a beautiful design of mehandi. The whole environment was full of festivity and zeal.

St Teresa Convent School celebrates Teej

A cultural programme especially for mothers was prepared by the students under the supervision of their teachers to celebrate festival of Teej at St. Teresa Convent Sr. Secondary School in sector 25 of Panchkula. It was a day of fun and frolic for all the mothers as well as the students.
The cultural dances made the celebration memorable and more enjoyable. Highlights of the functions were various competitions like tambola, paper dance, ramp walk and henna application was the additional charm. The mothers walk the ramp in their ethnic dresses. The most entertaining and enjoyable of the event was the live performance of gidda by the students. Mothers spontaneous participation made the event memorable one. The event came to an end by giving titles 'Ms Teej', 'Ms Beautiful' and 'Ms Charming'.

Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology, Phase 2 celebrated Teej, a traditional festival for the women with fun and frolic. The campus wore a festive look with buntings, fresh flowers and decorations replete with the traditional Punjabi items such as baagh, phulkaris, charkha, earthen pots, pakkhies and chhaj. Girls came in traditional attires and wore vibrant colours, splashing the college campus with multi-coloured rainbow hues. Swings were also set up on the campus. The festival of Teej brings exuberance and chance to get along each other.
This vibrant function was marked with various colourful events. Performance of energetic Giddha and traditional Bhangra amazed the audience. The traditional Punjabi food and swings added to the colour that is all around during this event. The theme of the venue and events was totally traditional and cultural-like a village.

Additionally, important guidelines were imparted on how children can avoid online risks, rules for online safety, and how to be a smart internet user.

Students of Saupin’s shines in various competitions

Saupin’s 32 students Vedant Joshi of Class IX and Shaunak Chaudhary
Vedant and Shaunak 
 of Class VI participated in the Open Chess Tournament organised by the Chandigarh Parents Chess Association. 44 children from India participated. After 6 rounds of tough competition Vedant and Shaunak secured the bronze in the U-15 and U-11 category respectively.


Winners of ADVAD competition 
Students of Class XI of Saupin’s School Chandigarh participated in ADVAD, an advertising competition organised by Sacred Heart SSS- 26. 20 teams from the tricity participated. Saupinians bagged the 2nd prize with their captivating advertisement on “Wireless Headphones”.

3 Training Workshop on Menstrual Hygiene Management Concluded at Panjab University

A three days training programme on MENSTRUAL HYGIENE MANAGEMENT(MHM) concluded at Panjab University which was organised  by NSS unit in collaboration with Centre for Social Work department and an International agency Water Supply Sanitation Collaborative Council, New Delhi. The training programme was attended by 55 NSS volunteers. 

During the programme various different techniques were used to demystify the myths associated with MHM like videos, role plays and volunteers were asked to do group work also. The training focused on breaking the silence on the issue of Menstrual Hygiene, talking about the correct practices, fighting against taboos and myths related to MHM, making informed choices about Menstrual Hygiene Management. The workshop laid stress on the issues related to gender in context to it. A special session was conducted for sharing the correct ways of disposing the used materials like sanitary pads etc.
The workshop was inagurated by Santosh Sharma, Director, Social Welfare Board, Chandigarh. She shared the importance of organizing such training programmes for the younger generations. Dr Navdeep Sharma, Programme Co-ordinator, NSS, Panjab University while speaking on the occasion highlighted the importance of such programmes and emphasized on more male participation in such events.

The NSS volunteers were also told on how to use news clips and media campaigns for such issues. The training team was lead by Dr Gaurav Gaur, Assistant Professor at Centre for Social Work and Dr Anupam Bahri, Assistant Professor at University Institute for Legeal Studies along with five students namely Sandeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Himadri Sharma, Vishaka Sharma and Komaljeet Kaur. 
In the training programme students from various departments like Department of Zoology, Defence Studies, Sociology, Public Administration, Dental College, UILS and some from Regional Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh joined and successfully completed the training programme. Dr Vijayta Chadha from Chairman, Department of Nuclear Medicine and Dr Upneet from Centre for Human Rights and Duties also shared their views and interacted with students and broke the myths associated with MHM.
