Opposing the extensive use of vehicle horns with an aim to reduce noise pollution on city streets, the students member of Peace Club St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School’s joined hands with Yuvsatta-NGO and Chandigarh Traffic Police. Over 200 students, teachers and volunteers converged on all four sides of Government Press Chowk of Sector 17 and 18 with placards and banners of ‘No Honking’ on roads.

Lending support to this unique project was Monica Chawla the Principal of the School who also joined to encourage participating students to popularizing the message. She shared that relentless and unnecessary honking punishes our senses every day and is the major cause of road rage, anxiety, hypertension and sleep disorders. Hence it is important that we take note of the issue and take some serious steps to get rid of this menace of our City Beautiful.
On the occasion, the Chandigarh Traffic personnel’s also inspired children by giving them ‘No Honking’ stickers as take away for their parents.
Pramod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta added that "From time to time, we organize no-honking campaigns to educate people about the harmful effects of noise pollution. Kids can encourage their parents not to blow horn unnecessarily. As many a times, people blow horn unnecessarily."
‘There should be awareness about honking and penalties must be slapped for violation. Honking should be prohibited near schools and hospitals. Incessant honking on the city's roads has become so harsh," said Jyoti a student of Class V.
