Young CRY volunteers and children from underprivileged areas of Chandigarh join hands for a cause

Child Rights and You (CRY) – India’s most trusted non-profit organisation for last 40 years along with its volunteers and partner organisations – Peoples Action for People in Need (PAPN) organised an event “A New Year for children” to spread awareness about child rights at Rotary Club Chandigarh. 

On this occasion a group of young volunteers of CRY who are school students of Chandigarh studying in different schools of the country, with initiative of 16 years old Aryan Mahajan, joined hands with children from underprivileged areas of the city and showcased a mesmerizing cultural afternoon. CRY volunteers as young as 9-year-old came up with heart touching performances with the children of Bhainsa Tibba and Kharag Mangoli slum. Sharing their views over their month long journey with children of Bhainsa Tibba and Kharag Mangoli, CRY volunteers said “we started this journey with the thought that we will be  contributing in making lives of these children better but after spending a month with them we have realised that we all are same. Our challenges, achievements, thoughts have alot of similarity". 

While, children from CRY's project areas said "their friendship with volunteers of CRY made their New Year really special. They were able to share their thoughts and emotions with the volunteers on the issues which they were never able to discuss with anyone".  CRY volunteers all below the age of 18 years along with underprivileged children performed inspirational songs and also did a small skit. Children also shared their experiences and challenges of day to day life on this occasion.
Regional Director, Child Rights and You (CRY) North, Soha Moitra said “The motive of this month long exercise was to let our young volunteers and children from project areas interact, explore and learn from each other’s lives. Today’s performance was a reflection of what children from privileged and underprivileged areas of Chandigarh explored about each other. It showed despite diverse backgrounds how beautifully children bond with each other. CRY believes such volunteering opportunities are a great platform for young minds from varied backgrounds to learn about their rights”.
