Christmas Day was celebrated at Deepalaya School, Gusbethi (DSG). To mark the occasion through a special cultural programme arranged at the school premises. Ajith Maniyan, veteran theatre director and actor, who was present as the Chief Guest on the occasion, interacted with the students and urged them to follow the noble values of “discipline”, “courtesy” and “respect for others” in their lives.
The programme began with a welcome note by Manoj Kumar, Principal, Deepalaya School Gusbethi. Hereafter, students from various classes of DSG and Deepalaya Children’s Home depicted the birth of Jesus Christ through a nativity play; the 30-minute-long skit was filled with spectacular acting, dance, Hindi songs, voice-overs, etc. A. J. Philip, Secretary and Chief Executive, Deepalaya emphasized on the importance of giving back to the society in his speech. “The spirit of Christmas upholds the idea of giving and gifting.  It is necessary that our students grow up with a vision of giving back to the society, and become contributing citizens,” said Mr. Philip. Maniyan and Philip also handed over new blazers to the boys of the school, with an objective to protect them from the harsh winters. These blazers have been procured by Deepalaya through the generous support of its donors/patrons who collectively contributed to the cause. Befitting the occasion, songs like “Wish You A Merry Christmas” and “Jingle Bells” were played. Tiny tots of the school overjoyed the audience with their cute dance steps. One of the students dressed up as young Santa mingled with the rest of the children and distributed gifts.  The function ended with a vote of thanks by Shiju Mammen, Administrator, Deepalaya School Gusbethi.
