The ECO Club of St. Joseph’s Sr. Sec. School Sector- 44 D, Chandigarh initiated the Green Campus campaign by saying “No to Polybags and Aluminum foils” in the school premises. This move was taken keeping in view to teach the young minds the hazards of plastic and the ill effects of aluminum foil on their health. The teachers talked to the students about the accumulation of plastic in the environment due its non-bio degradable nature which results in various health hazards in humans and animals.
They also highlighted the harmful effects of wrapping and cooking foods in aluminum foil. The students were made aware of alternative methods of bringing food wrapped in cloth napkins and also use cloth bags instead of polybags.
The school also started  “A Plant to Heal” drive in the class rooms where in children brought various planted herbs  like Tulsi, Aloe Vera, Basil, Mint and indoor plants like spider plant, peace lily which act as air purifiers and created an Eco corner and promised to take care of the plants. The idea behind it was to emphasize the fact that Nature acts as the Best Physician. This enhanced the knowledge of the students about these magical plants and their significance and its healing effects and planning to keep nature close to their heart.
