दर्शन, दर्द, गर्व और इतिहास पर होगी लिटराटी-2020 के पहले दिन चर्चा
चंडीगढ़ लिटरेरी सोसाइटी द्वारा शुक्रवार से लिटराटी 2020 का आयोजन होगा।

चंडीगढ़ लिटरेरी सोसाइटी के वार्षिक लिटरेचर फेस्टिवल लिटराटी के आठवें एडिशन का आयोजन ऑनलाइन शुक्रवार से होगा। इसका प्रसारण सोसाइटी के फेसबुक पेज और यूट्यूब चैनल पर लाइव होगा। पिछले प्रत्येक वर्ष ये फेस्टिवल शिवालिक की पहाड़ियों तले सुखना लेक क्लब में आयोजित होता था। मगर इसका आयोजन इस बार लाइव होगा।

फेस्टिवल का स्वागती भाषण सीएलएस की चेयरपर्सन, कवयित्री और लेखिका डॉ सुमिता मिश्रा देंगी, जिसके बाद फेस्टिवल के पहले सेशन में ‘मोक्ष- ए सेक्यूलर आइडिया ऑफ लिब्रेशन’ विषय पर प्रसिद्ध लेखक और फिलॉस्फर गुरचरण दास के साथ इंडियन एक्सप्रेस की स्थानीय संपादक मनराज ग्रेवाल चर्चा करेंगी। हावर्ड यूनिवर्सिटी से शिक्षा प्राप्त कर चुके गुरचरण दास प्रख्यात वक्ता हैं। इनकी किताबें भारतीय परिवेश और पारंपरिक भारतीय जीवन पर आधारित हैं। जिसमें ‘इंडिया अनबाउंड’ किताब अर्थ विषय पर, ‘द डिफिक्लिटी ऑफ बींग गुड’ किताब धर्म विषय पर और ‘काम- द रीडल ऑफ डिजायर’ किताब काम विषय पर आधारित रही। फेस्टिवल में गुरचरण अपनी हालिया किताब ‘मोक्ष’ पर चर्चा करेंगे, जो जीवन में अव्यवस्था के बीच मुक्ति के रास्ते की तलाश करती है।

फेस्टिवल में अगला सेशन युवा पीढ़ी पर आधारित रहेगा, जिसका विषय होगा ‘टू बी लाइकेबल एंड टू बी हैप्पी’। इस सेशन में मोडरेटर के रूप में मोटीवेशनल स्पीकर विवेक अत्रे लेखक ज्योत्सना मोहन भार्गव और क्रिएटिव डायरेक्टर नाओमी दत्ता से चर्चा करेंगे। ज्योत्सना की किताब ‘स्टोन्ड, शेम्ड, डिप्रेस्ड –एन एक्सप्लोसिव अकाउंट ऑफ द सिक्रेट लाइव्स ऑफ इंडियन अर्बन टीन्स’ बेस्ट सेलिंग किताबों में शामिल है और नाओमी प्रख्यात टेलीवीजन प्रोड्यसर हैं, जिन्होंने एमटीवी, स्टार वर्ल्ड और नेटफ्लिक्स के शो के लिए कार्य किया। सेशन में वर्तमान में अर्बन शहरों में स्कूली बच्चों के जीवन में आए परिवर्तन पर बात की जाएगी।

अगले सेशन में लेखक और कूटनीतिज्ञ नवतेज शर्मा और भारतीय मूल के आयरिश लेखक कैनवेरी माधवन के साथ मोडरेटर के रूप में कर्नल अवनीश शर्मा चर्चा करेंगे। इसका विषय ‘ट्रेसिंग फुटस्टेप्स’ रहेगा।

इसके बाद ‘पेन एंड प्राइड –पंजाब जर्नी थ्रू द ईयर्स’ विषय पर पंजाब की धरती के इतिहास और वक्त के साथ इसके सफर पर बंगलुरू के लेखक अमनदीप सिंह, लेखक  सरबप्रीत सिंह और मोडरेटर के रूप में डॉ रसीकप्रिया संधू चर्चा करेंगे।

दिन का आखिरी सेशन ‘इंक्रेडिबल इंडीया- सेक्रेड टेल्स ऑफ इंडियन टेंपल्स’ विषय पर रहेगा। जिसमें निहारिका भुवानिया के साथ 700 किताबों की समिक्षा करवाकर लिम्का बुक ऑफ वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड में नाम दर्ज करवा चुकी समिक्षक अनुराधा गोयल चर्चा करेंगी।

Lightenen Earthern Lamps to celebrate Diwali

Celebrating "Mission; The Awakening" by lighting thousands of earthen lamps on the eve of Diwali at sector 17 Plaza Chandigarh on Friday (13-11-2020).
This is the 19th consecutive year that this event is being organised with the aim to propagate the message of peace, brotherhood and tolerance while inviting the people from different walks of life and celebrating the occasion together.

DAV College donates proceeds of Green Diwali Sale to the INSTITUTE OF THE BLINDS

The NSS unit of DAV College Chandigarh, in association with the Institute for the Blinds, Sector 26 Chandigarh celebrated Green Diwali under the able guidance of Principal Pawan Kumar Sharma and NSS Programming officers Dr Suman Kapur, Dr Sandeep Singh and Mr. Bhushan Kumar. The unit was able to secure a large amount of funds as part of sale of exquisite candles, which were prepared by the blind students. The amount was later sent to the Institute of the Blinds.

The volunteers came forward enthusiastically for this project and gave desk duties from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the entry gate of DAV College following all the guidelines in force due to COVID-19. 

The unit's idea to spread the light of happiness proved to be an incentive for celebrating a pollution free Diwali. With all the candles sold out, the activity was a successful one.

Rotary’s gift of 4 tons of Diwali Sweets for army jawans flagged off

In no way we can compare the sacrifice of our jawans guarding our borders, said Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Shri V P Singh Badnore, as he flagged off three army trucks containing Diwali sweets.

He commended the Rotarians for their continued gesture of sending sweets and greetings on Diwali to jawans serving in the harsh conditions on our borders.

The project which was initiated in the year 2016 by Rotary Club of Chandigarh at the instance of Mrs Usha Saboo wife of the former world president of Rotary International Rajendra K Saboo, has now participation from Rotarians of other Rotary clubs in the District 3080 which comprises besides Chandigarh, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, UP, and Utrakhand.

The programme continues to be spearheaded by the past district governor Rtn Kawal Bedi wife of an ex Indian Army Officer, who manages the entire logistics assisted by the past president of the club Neenu Vij and her husband Praveen Vij who takes care of the airlifting of the consignment through the Indian Air Force.

The current District Governor of Rotary District 3080 Ramesh Bajaj said that this is a humble gesture from Rotarians to acknowledge the great sacrifices that our jawans make.  

Club President Sukhjeet Singh Gill said that Rotarians are grateful to the IAF and all the Rotarians from District for keeping this project going.

The consignment of 4000 kg of mithai worth over Rs.20 lakh would be airlifted by the Indian Air Force to be delivered through helicopters and roads to the far-flung areas of Siachin, Ladakh and Leh.

Those present on the occasion included senior Rotarians including PDG Madhukar Malhotra, PDG Praveen Goyal, PDG TK Ruby,  DGE Ajay Madan, amongst others.

St. Teresa Convent school celebrated dussehra with mont section virtually this time. The tiny tots were involved in different activities. The message of truth over evil was given to the children. A story telling session was conducted. Children made drawing of Lord Ram and Laxman along with Raavan which was later burnt. Cherubs of St. Teresa convent school enthusiastically and excitedly participated. Overall it was a successful celebration in a virtual way.

Sabzi Mandi soon be shifted back from ISBT-17 to Sector-26

Due to spread of COVID-19 and sudden spike in cases, it was decided by Chandigarh Administration to shift Sabzi Mandi shifted from Sector-26 to ISBT-17, Chandigarh. It was shifted to control the spread at that time. However, now as the Inter-State operation of CTU buses and other State Transport Undertakings would be starting back from 16.9.2020. 

Therefore, Sabzi Mandi is now to be shifted back from ISBT-17 to Sector-26 well before 15th September, 2020.

BUT CM DIRECTS DISTRICT AUTHORITIES TO FACILITATE MOVEMENT OF STUDENTS & OTHERS CONNECTED WITH EXAMS

Amid spiralling cases of Covid, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday announced his government’s decision to continue with restrictions in urban areas, including weekend lockdown in all the 167 municipal towns of the state, along with 9 a.m.-7 pm. curfew in all cities till the end of September. 

The decision has been taken in due consultation with the Centre, as required by the Unlock 4.0 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, according to an official spokesperson.

Section 144 of the CrPC banning all social, political, religious gatherings, protests and demonstrations will continue to remain in force throughout the State, while gatherings relating to marriage and funerals shall be allowed only for 30 persons and 20 persons respectively.

There will be total curfew on Saturdays and Sundays in the municipal states, while movement of individuals for all non-essential activities shall remain prohibited between 7:00 pm to 5:00 am within municipal limits of all the cities of Punjab throughout the week, as per the orders of the Chief Minister. 

Movement of students and others in connection with all kinds of examinations, admission/entrance tests conducted by Universities, Boards, Public Service Commissions and other institutions has been excluded from the restrictions. Captain Amarinder has directed district authorities to facilitate the movement of such persons.

Religious places have also been allowed to stay open on all days upto 6.30 p.m., as have been restaurants (including those in malls) and liquor vends.  The restrictions on day/time do not apply to hotels.

Captain Amarinder has directed district authorities to strictly comply with these guidelines, said the spokesperson. He has asked the police to ensure strict action against the organisers and main participants in case of any violation of orders u/S 144 of Cr.P.C.

The spokesperson made it clear that essential activities and services, movement of persons and goods on National and State Highways, inter-state & intra state movement of persons and unloading of cargo and travel of persons to their destinations after disembarking from buses, trains and aeroplanes will be permitted during the restrictive conditions. These essential services include those related to health, agricultural and related activities, dairying and fishery  activities, banks, ATMs, stock markets, insurance companies, on-line teaching, public utilities, public transport, industry in multiple-shifts, construction industry, offices both private and government  etc.

Giving details of the weekend/night restrictions, the spokesperson said shops/malls, except those dealing in essential commodities, will be allowed to remain open till 6.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday but will be closed in all cities on Saturday and Sunday. Shops dealing in essentials will be open even on the weekend, till 6.30 p.m.

The existing restriction on passengers in vehicles will also continue to remain in force, with only 3 persons including driver to be allowed in a 4-wheeler vehicle, and all buses and public transport vehicles to allow sitting for only half (50%) capacity with no person standing.

Further, Government and private offices shall operate with 50% staff strength till the end of the month i.e. not more than 50% of employees would be permitted on a particular day. The Heads of Offices would restrict public visitors in Government offices and encourage use of on-line Punjab grievance redressal system (PGRS) and other on-line tools so as to minimise person to person contact in offices, according to the directives issued on the Chief Minister’s orders.

On the ocassion of Shri Krishan Janamashtmi & International Youth Day Dr. Parveen Kumar, Warden, Boys Hostel No. 5, organized a Plantation Drive at the hostel premises. Under the able leadership of Professor S.K. Tomar, Dean Student Welfare (Men) and Prof. Sukhbir Kaur, Dean Student Welfare (Women) saplings were planted.

After the Plantation drive the worthy DSWs released the HandMade Bags made by the children of migrant construction workers. These children are living at the different construction sites of Panjab University campus sector 14, Chandigarh. All these bags were prepared by the waste newspapers under the guidance of Ms.Ishita Choudhary, student from Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Ishita is teaching these children since May 23rd 2020 on regular basis. These bags were prepared under the project Read to Lead...Kalam, Kitab aur Khwaeishen lead by Gaurav Gaur, Assistant Professor and NSS, Programme Officer, Panjab University. 

Appericiating the efforts put-in by Ms Ishita in teaching and imparting this vocational training to the students Prof Tomar said "What better we could have to mark this International Youth Day, today, where our own University students' have come forward and voluntarily serving the children in need. They are doing their best during this pandemic times". He interacted with these children and asked about their interests, daily routine, future plans and about their families etc. 

Prof Sukhbir Kaur, DSW (girls) also  interacted with these children and motivated them to pursue their studies whole heartedly.

Dr. Gaurav Gaur shared that, this initiative has two objectives like:  teaching these children a vocational skill and promoting healthly and safe environment by optimum utilisation of waste newspapers. 

Dr. Parveen Kumar, Warden Boys Hostel no. 5, while applauding the efforts, offered his support in sustaining such initiatives.

Those who were present at this occassion and planted a sapling included Dr. Bharat, Warden Boys Hostel No. 4, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Warden Boys Hostel No. 1, Dr. Anju Goyal, Warden Girls Hostel No. 1, Dr. Vishal Sharma, Warden Boys Hostel No. 8, and Dr. Simran, Warden Girls Hostel No. 8.

Teej Celebrations a Virtual way at St. Teresa School Panchkula

Teej refers to the monsoon festival. This festival celebrates the bounty of nature, arrival of clouds and rain, greenery and birds, rituals and customs. It includes dancing, singing, getting together with friends and telling stories, dressing up with henna coloured hands and feet.

We at the St.Teresa Convent School, Panchkula celebrated Teej virtually with great zeal. Children and their mothers were all dressed in their ethnic attire and enjoyed eating sweets. The students were happily enjoying the festivities in the comfort of their homes. 

Divneesh won Trophy in online Abacus Competition

The same way Divneesh, a student of Saupin's school Chandigarh grabbed 2nd position in 16th open Abacus National competition organised by Mental Arithmetic and Abacus All India Talent search Pvt. Ltd. The competition was held on 4th July 2020. Since it was an online competition, Divneesh secured this position by taking good guidance from her teacher Sapna Gupta from Skyline Academy. She supported him at each step which in turned showed great result.

I always take good advantage of time to learn new things and with this competition, I acquire the knowledge of contesting online and winning with the help of recent technology, as told by Divneesh. Further he said, " I am excited to know about my second position and waiting for my winning Trophy and Certificate". Moreover he expresses his keen interest to participate further in upcoming competitions whether online or offline.
