Our Greatest Strength Lies in Our Mothers: Students of Deepalaya School, Highlight a Social Message during Annual Day Celebrations
The Annual Day function of Deepalaya School Gusbethi was celebrated at the school premises with great zeal and enthusiasm.
The ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. A group of students performed a welcome dance. Hereafter, Manoj Kumar, Principal, Deepalaya School Gusbethi presented the annual report of the school highlighting its achievements for the last year.
Prof. Mohammed Aslam, Former Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), who was present as the chief guest, lauded Deepalaya’s efforts in spreading education in one of the most backward regions of Haryana. Quoting the legend Nelson Mandela’s words, Prof. Aslam reiterated that education is indeed the most powerful weapon to change the nation and the world at large.
Ilma Afroz, IPS graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour; she shared her inspiring personal journey from a small village in Uttar Pradesh to the prestigious Oxford University, and then coming back to India to serve her motherland. She also told the children about the importance of IPS and other civil service personnel towards the development of country, thereby inspiring them to rise and shine in their careers. She further urged everyone, especially the mothers, to come forward in every way possible to support the noble cause of promoting education.
The programme was themed as “tribute to our mothers”. Befitting the theme, students performed a music-cum-dance drama. The skit showed the sacrifices mothers make to educate and raise their children, how they build a loving and protective bond with their children right from the cradle, yet how children often tend to forget and ignore the contributions of their mothers as they grow up, and act in ways that are unexpected and discourteous. The play ended with an interesting message that life ultimately gives back your share of bitterness if you act in a disrespectful manner towards your loved ones.
A.J. Philip, Secretary and Chief Executive, Deepalaya and Chairman of the school expressed his gratitude to the guests who were present on the occasion. In his speech, Mr. Philip mentioned about Deepalaya’s dream to turn this school into the finest school in the district.
Towards the end, a few parents/grandparents spoke about the important role Deepalaya has played in educating their children, and how the organization’s community workers have made deep inroads into the community to facilitate positive social change in the area.
The function ended with a vote of thanks by one of the students of the school, followed by the national anthem.
